Celebrating World Vegetarian Day!

October 1 is World Vegetarian Day. This is a day to raise awareness about the various reasons for choosing a vegetarian lifestyle, promote the benefits of vegetarianism, and encourage everyone to consider reducing, or even eliminating their consumption of meat.

The rate of people reporting being vegetarian varies widely by country with many around 5% but this number is growing as a vegetarian lifestyle grows in popularity and more people become aware of the potential health benefits.

Vegetarianism is a personal decision for many, but it can lead to positive impacts on health as well as the environment. Further vegetarianism can improve animal welfare. While becoming vegetarian is not for everyone, today can be a day to celebrate and explore plant-based eating.

While plant based eating may call to mind the ever increasing range of “plant-based meat alternative” products, these are far from the only way to go plant-based. The truth is nuts, legumes, tofu, wholegrain foods, dairy products, dark leafy greens, and soy can all be essential components of a balanced diet for those following vegetarian diets.

    • If you are, what would you like other people to know about being vegetarian? What has been the most challenging part of being vegetarian?

    • If not, is reducing or eliminating your consumption of meat something that interests you? What do you think you would miss the most if you were to become vegetarian?

  • Plant based protein isn’t just for vegetarians, so what is your favourite plant based source of protein? (This includes nuts, legumes, etc.)

  • Do you have any favorite plant-based recipes you would like to share?

@EmotionsListener thanks for posting and raising awareness of vegetarian and plant based diets.

I find it hard to get enough protein and so I eat eggs.

@EmotionsListener

I enjoy eating a plant-based diet but I do eat meat. It can be difficult to eat beans and legumes everyday to get my protein intake. Great post :)

      For me the most thing I would miss is my Pork Chops😂I love a thin fried Pork chop every now and then.

    Eggs and I do like nuts of all sources. I am not a big eater and I don't eat like I should but I try😊
