Do you have a food that reminds you about your childhood?
Hello everyone!
Do you have a food that reminds you about your childhood?
1. Do you cook it for yourself?
2. Would you like to taste it again?
3. Do you remember the recipe?
Onions remind me of dad bc he ate them everyday.I guess If have to say bread, that's one of the foods we ate everyday.🍞
@Vanessagail
That's nice! Have you ever tried to make bread at home ?
cheers!
@BeyondTheInvisible Cornbread..lol I like to try different breads..I like dessert breads.
Homemade French fries using real potatoes. My mama and me used to make them at like 2am and she taught me how to peel the potatoes while we talked about anything. Then she would cook them and put a ton of salt on them and always shared them with me. To this day everytime I have real fries or even smell or talk about them, I instantly think of her and begin craving them for weeks until I eventually forget about them or finally go get some potatoes and make them myself!
Spaghetti pie.
Leftover pasta baked with cheese and cream till its crunchy.
I started thinking about the question and the first image that popped up was of little me making bread with my mom. I would make small buns, she would make a bigger loaf. I don't have a specific recipe in mind but I am always drawn to that smell and that texture. It's almost painful to feel sometimes, which is why I never bake bread for myself I guess...
I would say meat sauce. It was the first thing I ever cooked and served to my family.
1 lb ground beef- the lower the fat, the better
6 oz tomato paste
1 medium onion
2 cloves of garlic
1 14.5 can tomato sauce
*my addition* 1 14.5 can petite diced tomato
salt
pepper
bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon oregano
water, as needed
combine crumbled ground beef, garlic, onion(I feel like there was something else here...)
when beef is browned, add all other ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Simmer for 45 minutes. Serve atop pasta.
My mum used to make traditional Hungarian goulash soup, reminds me so much of my childhood. I make it too, though rarely and I use more bay leaves and add wine which she didnt do. It takes a lot of time to make which I dont have, but it tastes phenomenal and the smell brings back fond memories 😊
Scrambled eggs with cheese-the first stovetop thing I cooked on my own at 9 years old
Chicken Noodle Soup made by my Dad
1. Do you cook it for yourself? Yes
2. Would you like to taste it again? Yes, I get him to make it for me when I see him
3. Do you remember the recipe? It's more of catch-all
Yes. Fried chicken. Chicken and dumplings. Breakfast sausage. Homemade biscuits.
