language learning hobby
hi everyone!
i'm wondering, are any of you learning a language as a hobby? which one? and why?
language learning is my hobby. i haven't been able to do it for some time because school and other things got in the way. i want to get back on this hobby though, because lately i haven't been doing anything i enjoy (except watching tv).
anyways, i'd love to see if anyone else has the same hobby! also, this is my first thread (sorry if this has already been done recently), hope it's okay!

I am learning French, Spanish, German and a little bit of Mandarin from different sources 🙈
@TU100OT wow! thats a lot. and mandarin is a really different language so theres so much to learn

I don't know if it counts, but I'm learning Russian at school. It's not mandatory, I just chose it because I thought it would be interesting and useful.
I like the lessons and although it's hard, we always have fun in class.
@artisticCoconut81194 definitely counts! learning with a group can be really fun. and i agree russian is an interesting language. i actually know a couple native russian speakers and i always thought it sounded so cool

I am trying to learn Spanish. Also, Math is a kind of a language too, and I learn it everyday.

Hi!
One of my hobby is learning foreign language. iv been learning many languages ( basic level). But since i seldom practice them, theyre gone out of the window. Right now im focus to continue learning french. Always looking foward to practice it to someone. There was a pop up room on 7cups called "cultural connection room" ( if im not mistaken) which allowed us to talk on foreign languages there. Hope 7cups will open that room again.

@Liv125 ooh, french is a beautiful language! i'm learning japanese right now and i'm not very far along in it but im slowly progressing :)
I have been trying to regularly use Duolingo to re-learn Spanish. I was bilingual growing up but around 8-9 years old we moved to the US and I haven’t spoken it regularly since both my parents are native English speakers. I live in an area with a lot of Spanish language speakers and I would love be able to communicate in their language.
@ADHDBarbie that's really cool, and duolingo has a great program for spanish! i know someone like that who lived in mexico until she was 6 then moved to the US and forgot all the spanish she knew. it surprised me that she has a really hard time with pronounciation! i strongly recommend the grammar lessons on spanishdict.com and it also has very accurate translation and good vocab lists. :)

@kierapark hi kiera! it depends on the language you want to learn. for spanish, italian, german, french- those courses have been developed well on duolingo (free!) and i highly recommend it for those. for japanese, i have specific resources on a site called tofugu, and another one called kanshudo (also both free!). if you have your heart set on something else, there are subreddits for every language, just search "reddit learn korean" or whatever language, and they'll always have an extensive resource list for beginners pinned at the top.
when i was studying spanish a lot, i would use duolingo occasionally (it's best for beginners), add and study vocab through anki every day, use spanishdict for new grammar concepts, and watch tv in spanish dub. this was after years of learning though, and when you're just starting out, it's best to start with one or two so you don't overwhelm yourself.

It's been on my list of things to do for so long to learn a new language. I'd like to pick up from learning spanish in high school. I think it'd be extremely useful and I don't know if this is a strange thing to say but I think spanish is a sexy language.
@rose987654321 haha, i agree. and it is definitely a useful language especially in the US. if you want any suggestions for spanish learning resources i have a bunch. it's not a hard language to learn for english speakers and just spending a few mins a day will get you there!
