Self-awareness

Self-awareness is about understanding how your thoughts, actions, and emotions affect the world around you. No one is perfect, and Emotional intelligence is a skill like any other. By learning to express your emotions in a healthy way and practicing active listening skills in your relationships, you are also contributing to the expansion of your self-awareness. Self-awareness is your ability to perceive and understand yourself, which makes you who you are, like your personality, values, beliefs, and thoughts. Yet many are not self-aware. Many do not take the time to be self-aware. Most people do not think about self-awareness, but it is critical so that we understand ourselves and the relationships we have with others. We do not focus on it at every moment of every day. Some people never do, but it is essential to be self-aware as we age. We begin to have greater insights into our own thoughts, behavior, and feelings. One way to practice being present with yourself and your emotions is through meditation. It is simply noticing your breathing and being aware of your surroundings. Journaling is another way to become self-aware through self-reflection, which can help you notice how you think and behave. Additionally, it can help you identify areas in your life that you may want to improve. It is therapeutic and gives you insight.

Are you self-aware? If so, what do you do to help with your Emotional intelligence? If not, do you want to become self-aware?

I understand. Maybe it is a bit scary for you. Do it in your own time. Thank you for responding. Take care of yourself.

It’s not weird I keep hearing that from other people and I’m going to do that myself because I’d like to know what it says.

@patientWriter703 Well i'm also really deep in that automatic reaction of looking away.

For me it's mostly fear of being seen that makes me reluctant to peel back the layers of myself: society is unfair and makes me very ashamed of myself.

But i have to grow for anyone to love me(a very far away goal). I'm just taking the hellish, shaky, 1-inch steps forward to that goal by deleting shame. The self-awareness feels painful tbh.

Do you relate?

@0613

Yes, i absolutely do. Shame is such a pest! I keep realizing how it has kept me tied in so many different ways.

I think it’s wonderful. Also, meditation helps me. I highly recommend both.

I’m not great at it in a sense I am not consistent. I do meditation and I love it. It really helps me get centered. It needs to be consistent to work. Something I am working on.

@Mishka1599 I try to be self-aware, but it’s definitely a work in progress. Journaling helps me a lot because it lets me notice my thoughts, feelings, and behaviors over time. I also practice pausing before reacting in stressful situations, which helps me respond instead of just reacting. Meditation and just checking in with myself throughout the day help me stay aware of my emotions and energy. Being self-aware has helped me improve my emotional intelligence because I can better understand how I affect others and how to communicate in a healthier way.
