Signature vs. Character Strengths
Hi all!
I've just started my IDG journey, and am at the step where you reflect on your character strengths. There are questions to reflect on, and one of them is:
- Do you agree with your top character strengths? How are these similar or different to your signature strengths?
So I don't actually understand what the difference is. I thought the two terms were being used interchangeably. Can someone please clarify this for me? Thank you so much in advance!!
@OtterlyPositive thank you for asking this question! So, in this step we clarify these concepts -- signature strengths are usually those strengths that are an essential part of who we are - while these may be one of our dominant/top/prominent character strengths, they do not necessarily have to be on the top of our list. For the sake of the activities in this course/when using the free test, you can refer to the top of list of your results (top 3 to 5) or just select the character strengths which you feel are most important from any of the top ones.
Thank you @CheeryMango for the tag

Aha! I understand now - thank you so much for clarifying that! Is there a way to go backwards in the growth path in case I missed/didn't fully comprehend something the first time round?
@OtterlyPositive you are welcome! The best way to view the path again is on this preview page - you can drop down any of the steps and click the eye icon to view them again
@OtterlyPositive as far as I know, "Top character strengths" usually refer to the strengths that rank highest for you in an assessment, while "signature strengths" are the ones that feel most natural, essential to who you are in daily life. Sometimes they overlap, but not always. Hope that helps, and best of luck on your IDG journey. 💙
