Perspective Skills
Being able to see things from multiple perspectives is something everyone should learn. It is so important to understand something from not just your own perspective but from others as well. It allows you to understand things, such as ones thoughts, feelings, intentions and emotions, on a deeper level as will as increase your learning. Being able to understand someone's thoughts and feelings can lead to enhance communication and being better at problem solving. Furthermore it can lead to an increase in empathy toward other people that you may not have empathy for otherwise. Perspective taking can be hard to learn, it can take time to get used to taking things into account from another perspective, but the advantages of doing so outweighs how hard it is to do. When you take into other peoples perspective into account it can make the person feel seen and heard and may allow them to open up in future situations.
1. What is the hardest thing for you about taking other peoples perspectives?
@Joyce25 This post really resonated with me. I agree that being able to see things from multiple perspectives is such an important skill—it truly deepens our understanding of others and makes communication more meaningful.
For me, the hardest part about taking other people’s perspectives is sometimes the emotional vulnerability it requires. It can be difficult to set aside my own feelings and biases in a heated moment to really try to understand where the other person is coming from. I’ve realized that when I’m emotionally invested in a situation, it can cloud my judgment, and I have to consciously remind myself to pause and listen.
But I’ve also found that when I make the effort to understand someone else’s viewpoint—especially when it’s different from my own—it not only helps resolve conflict more effectively, but it also builds stronger, more compassionate connections. It’s a practice that gets easier over time, but I think it’s worth the challenge.
Thanks for sharing this—it’s definitely something I need to keep working on!

Sometimes I find it hard to put my own thoughts aside and truly see things from someone else’s view. But I’m trying to listen more and understand better.
