Values based goals and utilizing character strengths to accomplish them
Hi :)
I think the domain that stands out to and relates to me the most is domain 1. And the aspects I found the most useful there were the insights as to how we can set our goals, which is setting a values based goal and then utilizing your best traits, or top character strengths, to accomplish it. Sometimes, we set goals but somehow don’t feel a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment after we complete them. And when we think back, we see that that goal was not aligned with any of our values at all (let’s say you wanted something but that something was never something you valued). Perhaps we were just chasing that goal because it’s what everyone else set as their goal, making us feel like we should have the same goal. This is why it’s a lot more beneficial to set goals that are truly aligned with our values. And I have never tried the character strengths assessment before, and when I got my results, I agreed with it. I always recognized that those were traits that I was really developed in, but I never thought about utilizing them to help me accomplish my goals. I believe doing all of this can really help us get a sense of fulfillment, because first, we are chasing a goal that actually resonates and aligns with our values, and second, we get to show ourselves that we’re using the character traits we’re good at, which in the end will make us feel proud of ourselves.
Discussion:
Are most of your goals aligned with your values?
Among your top character strengths, which one do you think is best for helping you achieve your goals?
@Starlit263 Couldn't agree more! When our goals align with what we truly value, they feel so much more rewarding.
@Starlit263, I really appreciate your insights about setting values-based goals. It’s so true that chasing goals not aligned with our values can leave us feeling unfulfilled. I also find that understanding and leveraging my character strengths makes a huge difference in my approach to achieving goals. Most of my current goals align with my values, which has made the journey much more rewarding
