Empathy: Understanding Before Responding

Empathy is an important skill when we are supporting someone. To me, empathy means trying to understand what another person may be feeling without judging them or assuming that we already know exactly what they are going through.

Sometimes we may not have experienced the same situation as another person, but we can still listen with kindness and respect. Instead of immediately saying “I know how you feel,” we can give them space to explain their experience in their own words.

I believe that small things such as being patient, listening carefully, and acknowledging someone's feelings can make a person feel less alone. 💛

Discussion Questions:

* What  does empathy mean to you, and how do you show it when supporting someone?

* What is one thing someone can say or do that makes you feel understood? 🌱

Absolutely 💛 Empathy is about truly being present and listening with an open heart. Sometimes, simply feeling heard and understood can mean so much. I love how you connected empathy with caring and genuine listening. 🌱
