My true personality
I'm very quiet socially and if someone asks I say I'm an introvert..
But that's not true.
At heart im an extrovert.
I love the idea of meeting people, having a huge circle of friends, being socially active. The thing is I tried being social many many times and faced a lot of rejection. So now I live masking myself as an introvert..
@Creamyyy
I find people often associate introvert as being shy and quiet and extrovert as being loud and talkative. When I think of introvert and extrovert I would associate them with the amount of energy we receive when we interact with others. Some people lose energy when they are with other (introvert) and became tired. While extrovert are the opposite.
I'm similar to you in some sense. I don't mind meeting new people but I am not talkative when we first meet. However, after we get to know each other I would be a lot more talkative. My MBTI said I'm a extrovert but I see myself as an ambivert someone in between the two.
@Creamyyy I relate to this. I don’t know what my true self is. I believe I was an extroverted child, because I loved playing with other kids, talking to adults, goofing around in front of a camera, etc. I could get on stage and do things I’d never do now. I also remember early in development being shamed and these things taken away. I remember moments in sadness after being hurt deciding I’d rather be alone. I can remember slowly becoming more self-conscious. Now, I might meet someone extroverted who seems ok, and even if they don’t hurt me I still find myself drained around them. I need breaks from people to recharge. So I have largely accepted that I am an introvert, but I wonder if some of my lasting issues are due to internal conflicts about what my true ideal self wants deep down.
I feel you. There are internal conflicts at play with people like us who have been hiding parts of ourselves from lack of desired acceptance.
I loved to dance but its not much there in me anymore. I remember that side of me fondly. I dont think Im untrue to myself at the moment - but that side is also me.
