Course 3: PL 102 - One Key Metric (Discussion 5)

We've been talking about denial and distraction in this course. It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal. Â

There are 2 parts to this discussion. Â

1. Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the  3 key things thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well. Â

2. (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If not comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock. Â

It is important to choose a single metric as it will help us focus on a particular goal!

The exercise definitely helped me think about some things that I wanted to avoid thinking about. Thank you for the exercise!

i.) Positive exchange with other leaders from the community during the orientation session at the academy hub earlier today.

ii.) Making appointments and talking with members about their mental health concerns.

iii.) I invested some personal time learning and answering questions to further my understanding in the LDP course

The goal of choosing a single metric is important because it helps you focus and reduces stress, confusion, and it's easier to get things done.

I hope they will say that I have been a useful person to society and have lived a full life.

1. Time and energy management. Having a one key metric help us guide whenever we're are lost or in confused about what to do next.

2.I imagined people coming there and thinking of the many memories that I shared with them. I thought of how they would talk about how I lived my fullest doing the best in everything I ventured, and I stayed afloat even when the tides were rough.

It impacted me a lot, because it gave me a clear cut idea of what I wanted to do to be where I want to be.

Why is this goal of choosing a single metric is important?
as we are able to focus and develop it slowly .

Read chapter 12 and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, share what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If not comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you.
rather not to share the details but , this exercise had a huge impact on me and made me to think deeply about it. It's a powerful way understanding what is truly important to me.

By choosing a single metric in life we enable ourselves to understand things better than we did. It helps us to focus more on 1 thing rather than 10 at a time, which is just ineffective.

I want to focus on listening to 3-5 members a week so that I can keep reaching members that are in need instead of 1 member for the whole week.

The key matric is time management (life management).

Time management is extremely important for me so that I can have the opportunity to fulfill my work without getting drained or procrastinating my job.

I imagine my mom to say, "my daughter never goes away, she touched so many lives and will always do. She struggled herself, but always been there for me. I'm better for knowing her. Better for having her. She lived a happy meaningful life."

I imagine my best friend to say, "Jane my best friend is a true friend. A true friend is never gone. She was happy with her life. Her happy memories live in our hearts and minds. She was the family that I never had, her accomplishments are never forgotten."

- I can't think of anyone else :') - these are the most that I care about -

A single key metric I can have to work on to keep moving is self improvement. It’s important to find this key metric from both professional and personal views because without having something to guide us through the changing weathers and lights and settings we eventually lose ourselves to wherever we currently end up. When we lose our guide we lose the reason and meaning behind why we are and doing what we’re doing at the moment and decide fo stay in that spot, being chained to a endpoint that we may not necessarily want. With the guide we can remind ourselves where we do want to do and either decide to stay and work around us or if we wanted to to eventually set ourselves in another stage that suits us better, however much or little we need fo move ourselves to feel like we’re getting and receiving enough energy.

The following is what I posted in the 3 key things thread-

Key three things I did at 7Cups:

-taking requests to listen and chatting with those who want to talk to me again

-supporting and taking to persons in group chats

-participating in 7cups courses

This exercise impacted me in the sense that I have potential and ability to do things that reach people and their feelings. Where I know for sure that people received the energy I put my mind and heart to giving to others. So it’d feel powerful to know I did that in my own accord and motivate me to do more and further For instance thinking about even what people have told me presently such as in 7cups by the end of the chat or in the reviews where they said I was caring and patient it filled me with joy cause those are the kinds of characteristics I want to keep having.

- The 3 Key things I'm doing to help move 7 Cups forward is ATL Quality Mentoring, ATL Listener Coaching and ATL Listener Verifier. My key metric is to support and improve the overall Listener quality of the site. Choosing a single metric is important to combat Distractions that may take your focus off your goal.

- This exercise was very impactful because i know I would be described as having a meaningful life and a powerful, compassionate and giving spirit. This makes me want to continue to live my life in ways that continue to align with this. My Leadership roles on 7 Cups are some of my main ways of doing this.
