A Day of Silence - What does it mean?
What is "Day of Silence"?
Day of Silence is a historic event, first coming around in 1996 after being organised by students at the University of Virginia, it has been celebrated every April ever since.
The purpose of Day of Silence is to be a day of action to spread awareness of the effects of bullying and harassment of LGBTQIAP+ people, bringing attention to the hatred and oppression that members of our community face.
How can I celebrate?
Traditionally, people who believe in this project celebrate Day of Silence simply by just remaining silent. Of course, in a modern world, remaining completely silent all day is impossible in endless situations; but there are still ways you can celebrate and spread awareness! This could include putting up posters around schools and your local neighbourhood or something completely different! Some people even go to the lengths of putting out an announcement on their school PA system!
As a member of the LGBTQIAP+ community, this day is yours to celebrate however you see fit!

Wow, I wasn't aware of such an important day. I've heard about the day of silence, but I didn't know much about it. Thank you so much for posting this. I'll answer your questions based on what I've understood about the day of silence :
- Do you plan to celebrate Day of Silence, if yes, how will you celebrate?
Yes, even if its a day late, I would plan to celebrate it. It would be by ..you got it, staying silent as much as I can (even though it might be a bit hard).
- Do you feel this celebration is still important to the LGBTQ+ community as a whole?
Yes. I believe its importance to raise awareness about how bullying and oppression was ( and sadly still is on several parts of the world ) on upon the lgbtqia+ community (although MOGII is a more inclusive abbreviate) . It shows how much our community got through and reached where we are now. That's why for me celebrating this day , is important - as it can be used by bringing awareness to everyone ( like this post 😊 )
