What does being part of the LGBTQ+ community mean to you?
Being a member of the community means something different to every person. Some people may have similar views, some may have completely different views on this topic! That doesn't make you any less valid!
To me, being a member of the amazing LGBTQ+ community means that I am able to reach out and discuss topics that I relate to with wonderful like-minded people! Whether that be through 7 Cups, my friends, or other services both online or face-to-face. I 100% believe that more than anything, being a part of the LGBTQ+ community means to be proud of who I am and to know that I am not alone on this journey and both members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies are all here to support me.
Some questions for you to consider and discuss:
1) Were you always comfortable as a member of the LGBTQ+ community? If you're comfortable sharing, why/why not and when did you first find validation?

1) I was not always comfortable as being a member of the lgbtq+ community. I have always felt that I had to fit into social norms. For 16 years I hid this and recently came out. The first place I found validation was surprisingly on here I made my pronouns known and a member used them and it made me feel whole. I am happy to have this app and to have you people.
2) I don’t think that people fully understand unless they are put in the same situation. Although I haven’t really meet any ally’s. People attempting to understand and not getting it 100% right can get frustrating but on the other side of the equation I have been there to so I understand.
3) Right now being a member of the LGBTQ+ community means that I I’m in a place where i feel i belong. This may change as I progress on my journey but so far I am here because I can be me without judgement. ( I hope I didn’t make my reply’s to long. For me the questions just feel a little complicated and need a longer explanation)

I don't know how to answer that question. I think it lies between a grey area of yea and no. I think it was probably because how much the community is ostracised of being who they are...and it took a while for me to come in terms of myself and my identity....I first found validation through lgbtq+ books ( though I don't quite remember which was the first book I came across). It was like a door opened in my present world.
2) Do you believe that allies are able to fully understand members of the LGBTQ+ community? What do you think of people attempting to understand but not always getting it 100% correct?
If you're asking me if allies would be able to fully understand what it means to be part of the LGBTQ+ community, I don't think that would be fully possible (For me its more like thinking if cats can understand what it means to be a dog). I believe that they can empathise with us, although it can take some time, as we currently live in a queer-phobic world ( but it's changing slowly, and I'm glad about that)
I think its a nice thing from the side of people who attempt to understand us, and they might not always get it 100% percent, maybe because of their values, or the way they were raised to thingk a certain way...but as long as there is not hate, and no microaggressions, I think that we all can live amongst each other. Because we're humans, first and foremost.
3) And the big question! What does being a member of the LGBTQ+ community mean to you?
Being a member of the LGBTQ+ community means a lot to me, so much that I can't seem to find the right words to express it. It was like finding a place where I truly belonged, where there are people like me and similar to me, who accepted parts of myself that I had to hide in front of others...its more of a liberating feeling for me and a feeling of acceptance.

Being lgbt to me means being proud of who I am with no exceptions. I’ve had experiences with religion that either outright hates me or believes I am inferior in some way, just because of who I love. Being lgbtq means to me believing I deserve the same rights as any straight person.
1) I was never comfortable with my sexuality until recently. It was labeled as something “weird” “immoral” or a “shame” to be if you were queer, you were lesser of a human.
2) Allies can be helpful but sometimes they act like they know just as much as a queer person would which isn’t true. I appreciate them but sometimes they do cross boundaries and it’s cringe.
