Demanding a break or be broken up

My boyfriend of going on two years now has demanded going on a break, we haven't clearly stated if we are together still or not, he wants me to leave him alone in his darkest times and it tears me apart not being their. We have gone through many trials of heartbreaks, fighting, and much much more and I don't know what to do. We live in a BDSM lifestyle and recently before this I damaged it severely, I had a bad episode that ended up hurting him with some of my actions on myself and now he is shutting down, upset and almost repelled by me showing any kind of love. I want to help him and have tried but it's made things much much worse, please I need help. I want and need him. What should I do? I've grown so very attached that not having him, as my romantic partner is absolutely devestating me.
