Family not being supportive

Hi my name is Tyler and my wife and I recently separated due to me being gay and having a same sex affair while married. My ex and I have two children under the age of 7 and our marriage had been rocky from the start. I felt like there was something wrong with me from the age of 16 and I tried to hid my feelings because I was raised in a conservative Christian home where being gay was frowned upon and considered a sin. I hid that part of me for so long even to the point of getting married because I felt like getting married would change my mindset which I was wrong it only heightened my feelings for affirmation from another man. My parents found out about my affair and told me that lifestyle wasn’t Christian like and I need to get into counseling to help me work through my problems. Counseling helped for awhile but I still felt like I wasn’t doing anything wrong by having encounters with other men. My wife and I are separated now and we are sharing custody with our children and it’s lonely not having someone here to talk to about the struggles of everyday life or just to have the companionship of coming home to someone and relaxing on the couch. How has everyone else overcome these feelings of being lonely or not accepted?

Hello,

It’s difficult when your family is not support of you.

Especially, a big part of our identity. I agree with your feelings, you weren’t doing anything wrong about wanting a romantic relation with males. As for as for feeling lonely, maybe try meeting people through hobbies/clubs. <3

I wish you the best.💛💫

Hi tlacey089. I hope you've been doing well. So sorry to hear that you've been dealing with these feelings of isolation and loneliness. I think it's important that you know that there is absolutely nothing wrong with you for being gay or a homosexual. And just because some people don't accept you because of it does NOT mean that you're not enough as is. You're perfect as you are.

It can be a hard life to be treated as an outcast. I think it might help to find more people who've dealt with similar struggles to what you're going through. It may be easier for people to understand what you're going through if they've dealt with or are currently dealing with the same struggles. Their understanding and greater sense of empathy may help you to change your perspective on your situation. You can gain a clearer and healthier picture/understanding of yourself when interacting with people who better understand who you are.

I hope you overcome these feelings of isolation. Try to remember that you're not alone. If you continue struggling to find people who understand and believe in you, just remember that I believe in you. I hope that'll count for something and help you to not feel as alone.

Best of luck man.

Welcome, Tyler! First and foremost, I want you to know that I’m so glad you’re here and you’re not alone. I walked a very similar path before coming to grips with my sexuality, even went so far as to marry a man and produce a child.

I am so proud of you for finally embracing your authentic self! You’re on the other side of everything anew and it will take some time to find your footing, but trust me when I say it’s worth it. You will grieve and rebuild, and you can always find a sense of community here.

Thank you for sharing your story!! ♥️
