How do you guys deal with homophobic parents? I recently was kinda forced to come out by my parents and I identify as queer. Basically they are extremely against it and say it goes against nature and I’ll go to hell if I go down this “path”. I’ve kinda always liked girls (now non binary people too) from a young age, but I’ve suppressed it. And I told them that you can’t change me. Yet they still bring it up as if they can magically convert me. My mum even said it’s wrong to legalise gay marriage and all that because it gives kids the wrong idea. I am really considering moving out but rent right now is so expensive. I don’t know what to do.

I am a parent of a gay son..... I reacted worse

when we really found out we kept from his dad for a long time expecting bad reaction and such ...... well some drama came up regarding a friend he had ... first love type thing who has decided to fake his life for his parents married the first girl that came along etc...

During this time and DAD found out ...... his general response was "tell me something I don't know"

he is not comfortable with subject or PDA ............but now we have paid for part of wedding and spend time with son and SIL.....regularly

underneath things the life I saw or secretly wished for my son had changed ......i asked him to try dating girls etc .... he pointed out i would have not asked the opposite to his brother.....

It was something inside of me that needed work on.

some other parents still have issues about what other think or feel...said something about my son's husband and quietly a neighbor lady came by and said is your son gay?

why because she has a gay daughter and felt she had no one to talk to and understand ......it takes time to realign your dreams for child and see them for who they are.

it was harder for me to accept for a long time then it was the for his dad whom we all expected to take it badly.....

Hey! I've experienced homaphobia from my familymembers, so I understand what you are feeling. The thing that helped me the most was befriending LGBTQ+ people from my school. They understand me so much and I could openly talk about queer stuff with them that I would be too scared to bring up around anyone else. It was so freeing! If you have any queer friends, confide in them. If not, try to make some. (Spotting people with pride pins/merch and complimenting them is a good conversation starter lol.)
