Gender Struggles
I've questioned my gender for a very long time now, years. And while I am not uncomfortable with being referred to as a woman I feel disconnected from it, and when I think about identifying as a man I also get that same disconnect. This has led me to the belief I might be nonbinary, and while it seems easy to type out now it has been very difficult to come to this realization, as I am still connected with femininity in a way that I like to be 'pretty'. I've had to work through alot of internalized trans phobia and fear of my future if I accepted I am not a woman, something that still weighs on me a keeps me firmly in the closet. Can anyone else relate?
@AssumingVillage So there are a few things to note.
- Expression doesn't equal gender. That's what gender non-conforming means.
- Non-binary is a vague term meaning anything that isn't male or female. There are lots of identities under this umbrella term. The first one I think of is demigirl which means one has a partial connection to being female, but since you say you feel a disconnect from being male or female, this might not be it. If you feel a disconnect from being any gender in particular, you might be agender which mean one has no gender. I suggest doing some research and taking your time to figure yourself out.
- Don't come out if it's not safe to. It depends on the people you come out to, but in some cases it may put your life in danger. You should come out to the person you trust most if you decide to come out at all.
These are mainly suggestions, but I do hope I was or can be of any help!
