My mom treats me being non-binary like it’s a privilege

Hi, my first time posting here. I hope this goes well.

I knew I was non-binary in eighth grade(I’m in college now) and unfortunately when I was in my freshmen year, I was outed to my mom.

Luckily, she took it well, only really upset that I didn’t tell her or feel ‘safe’ enough to tell her but in reality, I didn’t want to.

Cut to present time, I’ve noticed that whenever my mom is upset or annoyed with me, she uses my dead name instead of my actual name. Most of the time she mutters it but it still hurts as I feel she views my name more as a privilege that can be taken away than what I actually am.

I don’t want to say she’s doing it on purpose but it doesn’t stop how hurt I feel whenever she does do it. Does she really she me as non-binary?

I just think it's something your mother is trying to navigate.

I'm glad you are happy and comfortable with who you are.

That's what matters most.

Don't give up on your mom, let her know what makes you feel accepted 💚
