Gender is really confusing me
So I'm a young adult who grew up pretty repressed and not understanding my feelings. Now that I'm in my 20's I'm starting to explore my feelings and I'm so dang confused. I wish I had the space to figure this stuff out at 16 and not 21 but it is what it is. I've made a lot of progress but it's been so freaking hard. Anyways I'm confused. For a long time I thought I wanted to be a girl but was stuck as a guy but now idk. I think I might be non binary because truly talking about it openly with my therapist made me realize I don't fully want to get rid of my masculinity but I also have such a strong pull towards feminine things and I honestly feel like maybe I'm neither gender. Idk. I just hate how it isn't socially acceptable for me to wear dresses, makeup, and be just cute in general. I also do enjoy being strong, and sometimes enjoy having a beard but I hate the way my body hair looks so so much. I also sometimes being viewed as more feminine and sometimes more masculine. Like I kinda want to be both genders but having to choose at all feel wrong. Idk. Is it wrong of me to want to be non binary
@agreeableSkies9889 Hello. I understand that gender can be confusing and I think it's okay to discover yourself as an adult. I didn't know I was transgender until I was in my early 20s and when it clicked, I felt like I found where I belong. And yet, I still can't present myself the way I want and I haven't transitioned at all yet because of the people around me. But I have hope that I will one day be able to present myself the way I want.
It is completely okay (and I think great) that you believe yourself to be nonbinary. There is nothing wrong with that. I think it's great because it makes you different than the crowd, and when you're ready you can present yourself however you feel is most comfortable. I'm not at that stage yet, but I look forward to it, and I hope you can as well.
My only suggestion to you would be to look into a gender identity called bigender. This is what your description of what you're feeling sounds like to me. You don't always have to find a label for yourself, but for me knowing what I am is nice. If you just feel nonbinary, that is perfectly okay as well because not everyone likes labels like me, and I respect that.
Anyways, I really respect and think it's great you talked with a therapist about this. That really helps. And thank you for sharing your story, that was brave of you. I hope you find comfort and peace. If you would like to keep talking, I'm open to continuing this conversation. Thank you for reading this reply.
