So confused

i’ve always been straight but since lockdown I’ve found out I’m definitely not straight but I’ve still been telling myself I’m straight because my family are all straight and I love my mum so much but she says some horrible things about people in the LGBTQ+ Community, she doesn’t realise that she shouldn’t be saying stuff like that but yeah I don’t know how she’s take it if I told her I wasn't straight.

back to the point though. I don’t know whether I’m bisexual or lesbian, I’ve had feelings for girls but I’ve never actually had a crush on one but that’s cause I couldn’t admit that I wasn’t straight so I convinced myself I didn’t like her but I’d feel invalid saying im lesbian/bisexual when I can’t ACTUALLY name a girl I’ve had a crush on.

this is probably so confusing how I’m saying all this but any advice would be so appreciated. Love you guys!

Hello,

Sometimes people might have all answers but one still not in the zone of acceptance, which is alright. I believe self awareness and self acceptance is the key where you start trying to explore within and know what works for you, which is really important.

Secondly once you know, accept and believe in yourself then you can plan moving further to share with your friends family and loved ones

I would suggest, do not draw any conclusions in mind before you knowing is right for you.

Just keep calm and try to be flexible enough with your thoughts without considering any outcome or conclusion.

Things will definitely fall into its place. Stay strong.

@Tillysoper14 hi and congratulations for reaching out for support during this troubled time! You must feel very confused, and that's ok. Coming to terms with your sexuality isn't easy, particularly if you don't come from an lgbt friendly environment.

First of all, it's ok if you haven't had a crush on a specific girl yet, your orientation is about who you could potentially be attracted to, not your specific experience. That is to say, if the thought of being with a girl feels good and appealing to you, that's enough to determine what your orientation is! After all, straight people will tell you they always knew they were straight, even before their first crush. Because the thought of being with a boy or girl was enough for them to determine it.

I'm sorry to hear about your close-minded family. The best thing right now is probably to focus on yourself and getting more familiar and confident with your own orientation. Dealing with the rest will come later - and remember, you can always look for support when you're in need!
