Looking for help for my cousin

So my family is a brunch of homophobic a**holes. And my cousin is lesbian. She just came out to her parents but if she came out to our grandpa he'd murder her. Should she just tell the rest of the family and not him or not tell anyone else? Because I think she's hurt because of ask the homophobic things my grandpa says.

Coming out is a very personal decision. Usually I'd say it's ok to do it when you want to feel free and you feel ready to face any reaction to get your freedom of expression, but there's something that's even more important: staying safe. She doesn't owe the truth to anyone, she should just do whatever she thinks she would make her happy, but of course her first priority must be to stay safe. If it's not safe for her to tell other people, she should protect herself until she's in a position when coming out is safer - and she can always choose to never come out to some people at all.

The best thing you can do for her is to make sure she feels accepted, loved and supported. If she has a safe space to express herself, she can endure having to hide it to some people. Stand by her side, maybe encourage her to get support from supportive friends or an LGBT association, let her express herself freely. I'm sure it will mean a lot to her.

@Aayla thank you! I think it's just hard for her surrounded by all the rest of the family and not being supported or feel like they care about her

@adaptableRaspberries8393

she should not tell her grandpa, but it is her choice to come out to whoever she wants. Tell her to be safe.
