so I have come out multiple times to my mum and have been brushed off every time. I know she understands it because I've sat down and explained it to her but each time nothing ever happens. I get told that she doesn't want to speak to me about it and gets annoyed. Maybe she's embarrassed or something idk but it makes me feel really ashamed to be trans yk like is my being trans such a disgust to her that she's embarrassed about it?

Heyyy there 😊I have a trans child. There is nothing wrong Or disgusting about you. You are brave to be true to who you are. You’re mom needs to realize a moms love Doesn’t have boundaries. It is free from judgment. It’s free from stereotypes. She is wrong for ignoring and not supporting you. Hang in there and stay true to you.

I am so sorry! I wonder if she just doesn't know how to respond, and goes to stick her head in the sand. You deserve support! Is there anyone, friend or family, who you might cone out to, and get the support you need? Your mom might just need a little time to process what you said. It's a difficult thing to hear from a son or daughter. It requires a complete paradigm shift. A mother raises a child from the moment of birth (or adoption) and the first thing that is usually said is, "It's a boy,"or " it's a girl." Then she raises that child from there for X number of years, in specific ways often according to the child's gender at birth. Then, one day she is told she no longer has that boy or girl she gave birth to, but now she has the opposite gender or a non-binary individual. It's extremely hard to shift the thinking about her child to the other gender, or to a neutral one. That's not even counting whatever sociocultural ideas or religious ones she grew up with. So, you might tell her how you are feeling when you try to bring up this discussion, while empathizing with the difficulties she is experiencing hearing this from you. Just a thought.

When attempting to come out to a family member. My comeout was also brushed off. It was them saying ok so....your attracted to the same sex but your aren't like REALLY INTO THEM ARE YOU?? You just like them right? So...basically in their mind it was easier to be in denial about it than to try and understand what I was doing. Which was trying to be open about my attraction to woman.

I am so sorry, my mom did something similar, I hope that we both have better luck in the future, sending hugs if that's okay

@llupin

I feel the exact same way. I don't know how to reassure you or to solve your problem, but at least you can talk to me if you need someone who can relate to you 😊
