Dating Apps Are Burning Me Out — How Are You Meeting People in Real Life?

I’m a 32-year-old guy and I’m feeling pretty stuck with dating. Dating apps just don’t seem to work for me anymore. I might get one or two matches a month, and even then it usually ends the same way — short conversations, maybe exchanging numbers, then getting ghosted or unmatched. It’s draining and honestly discouraging.

I don’t drink or smoke, so bars aren’t really my scene. I do like playing pool, but I don’t really have friends to go out and do things with, which makes meeting people in real life feel even harder. I’m not sure where people actually go anymore to meet someone naturally.

I’m really just looking to hear from others:

  • Did you quit dating apps, or did you make them work somehow?

  • How are you meeting people in real life?

  • What helped you push through this phase?

Not expecting perfect answers — just real experiences. Thanks for reading.

I have friends who met their significant others by doing things on an app that centered around hobbies or interests an example my friend joined in hiking groups or cooking classes etc.

Maybe they have a pool league or something where you meet new friends often if they have a partner, they always know a single friend etc. I myself met my partner thru friends.

I am in the same boat as you. The only dating app I use is *** dating but even that isn't the greatest. It's so hard to meet people nowadays especially if you don't go to bars or there's not social gatherings in your town. I kind of tend to like *** dating because I learn what I want from a relationship and what I don't but overall not that successful but would rather options do we have? The chances of meeting Mr Right in the grocery store some to none now and days lol

It is important to be aware that many women use dating apps without any intention of ever meeting. They use them only for validation and attention.

You have to also be aware that many women are very fearful of men they don't know well.

Don't forget, a lot of political propaganda has brainwashed a lot of women into delusional thinking.

They have been told that they are perfect, and that they 'deserve' to get everything they want without any effort.

Do you have female family members, neighbors, co workers?   Let them know you're not asking them on a date, but you'd like to better understand how this is going off the rails for you.

Do not try to date.  Get into some mixed gender groups and just show in general that you're a decent guy to be around.   Meetup Dot Com is a great place for mixed gender groups.

Sign up for a few activity lessons.  Dancing is a good start.

I hear you with dating being challenging these days. I do most of my dating off of dating apps and have had some moderate success.

I got divorced in 2022, and since then have dated 5 women (one serious relationship), and had some other dates here and there. 2 came through friends, 1 through hinge, 1 co-worker and 1 through run club. I strongly dislike the dating app experience, so I've stayed away from that 95% of the time. I did at one point have a female friend running the dating app for me, which was an interesting experiment....she didn't have much luck either lol, I think a few dates came of it.

Friends and hobbies are the way to go, IMO. Invest in yourself, your friends and your lifestyle and things can get better. It takes work and patience, I'm still working on myself constantly. It also takes courage and a willingness to stick your neck out, which is the piece I am working on the most. I understand it can feel hopeless sometimes, but not giving up is the only way out.
