“To lose patience is to lose the battle.”

Is it easier for you to show patience towards others or yourself? Can you explain why?

It's easier for me to show patience with others than with myself. I don't know why, to be honest. I guess I can think of many possible reasons for why someone else might be having a hard time. But I have access to my own struggles and think I should be able to rise above them better. I don't expect mercy from others for my struggles with my own problems, so if I can't rise above them on my own, I think I'm doomed.

@Zeraphim

It must be hard to feel that you've got to rise above your struggles. How could your life be different if you would allow yourself to reach out for help to share the burdens of your day or life?

This is a really relevant prompt because I recently realized how much higher the expectations I place on myself are. This morning I was doing my taxes and the envelope ripped so I had to tape it. My bf was like hey that's fine you have all the info right who cares about the envelope? I'm sure people turn in much worse. But I said "But I have to be better than everyone else who mails taxes. I have to have my envelopes look better from ME." And then once I said that I realized how silly it was, like, who am I to need to have the neatest, perfect quality envelope? Who am I to need to do anything perfectly? I wouldn't expect anyone else to shame themselves for something like a tear in a piece of paper. And I talked with him about how I feel like I have to be better than everyone else to even be the bare minimum of equal. And that starts really young for me because I was always told I am really good - I was "the best artist", "the best in every class", etc. but at home I was being treated horribly. I felt like I had to compensate from what I could accomplish. When I was filling the envelopes I was thinking like "in school and college I can make such professional slideshows and posters, why does my envelope look bad? Everyone expects me to be really good at this." But they really don't. It isn't like I'm the paper celebrity lol. Some random employee will just rip open my envelope and take my form and it doesn't really matter at the end of the day because I got it done.

I think you came to an important conclusion. Most of the time it's really not what others expect from us but how our self-expectations look like! It can be a difficult road to build self worth and understanding that we are worthy without doing certain tasks, without being close to perfect but the destination namely feeling more relaxed in life is worth it.

@amiablePeace77 I would imagine for the majority  people it's easier to show others patientce, definitely easier for me anyways. I think it's because I know what to say and whats best to do, but following the advice yourself is much harder. Also it's because I'd rather ignore my feelings and help others so they don't have to suffer to.

I'm not sure if that makes much sense. I have this issu e where I say before I think😎❤
