Melatonin, a hormone that helps you sleep, gradually decreases as you get older, which might make it harder to sleep well. You can help your body make the right amount of melatonin at the right time by spending time in sunlight during the morning and afternoon. Some people go for a walk outside, while others sit near a sunny window.

What do you do to keep your melatonin levels balanced?

During the daytime, i open all of the blinds and curtains. If I am in a room that does not have good window lighting, I turn on extra lights as I do not want any Melatonin produced during the day. In the evening, only dim (yellow or red)  lights. I have red tint on my TV's and Blue light blocking on my PC and Phone. I also have Bluelight blocking reading glasses. During the fall and winter months, I do not have any issues. But in the summer, it is almost impossible to block the sunlight.

Being exposed to blue light in the evening reduces the production of melatonin, a hormone that helps you fall asleep. Great that you take good care of yourself and also got informed about the impact of certain lights on your sleep!

I try to get some morning sunlight and keep a consistent sleep schedule. I also avoid scrolling on my phone right before bed and give myself a little time to unwind. Small habits like these can help support a healthy sleep-wake cycle. I sometimes use MyBeing for mindfulness and relaxation prompts to help me wind down at the end of the day.

Having little helpful habits can improve our well-being a lot over time.

I try to be as active/busy and happy as possible during the day so I can get as much good quality sleep at night as possible

I dim the lights and avoid using screens an hour before I sleep

Sounds helpful! I find that when I have screentime just before bed it's more difficult to fall asleep.
