Finding Peace in Chaos: How Do You Stay Centred in Difficult Times?

Hey everyone,

Lately, life has felt like a whirlwind — deadlines, personal challenges, global unrest... it's a lot. Amid all the noise and uncertainty, I've been thinking more about what it really means to stay centered. How do we hold onto peace when everything around us feels anything but peaceful?

For me, it’s been a journey. I’ve started leaning into small daily practices that ground me — early morning walks without my phone, journaling whatever comes to mind, and even just sitting still with a cup of tea and no distractions. I’ve also found comfort in accepting that some days will be harder than others, and that’s okay.

But I know there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to staying balanced in tough times. So I wanted to open up the conversation here:

How do you find peace in chaos? What practices, mindsets, or habits help you stay centered when life gets rough?
Do you turn to nature, art, spirituality, community, or something else entirely?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and learning from each other. We’re all navigating this messy, beautiful life together — maybe we can help each other find a little more calm along the way.

Warmly,
🌿 AloyXmachina7786

For me, finding peace in chaos has become more about inner alignment than trying to control the external noise. I’ve learned to come back to my breath — literally — when things feel overwhelming. Slow inhales, even slower exhales. It’s such a small thing, but it reminds me I’m still here, still grounded.

I also write a lot. Not to be poetic, but to clear the mental clutter. Sometimes just putting feelings into words helps me name what’s really going on underneath the surface.

When I’m emotionally stretched thin, I seek silence — not in isolation, but in mindful stillness. Sitting with a warm drink or looking up at the sky reminds me that even the stormiest days pass.

And like you said — accepting that not every day will feel balanced is a kind of peace in itself.

@tingtingxin Every word you speak carries a rare kind of peace that reaches deep within. Sometimes, what we truly need is to slow down, sink into our thoughts, and gently unravel the knots we've tied along the way. With time and stillness, clarity often finds its way back to us.

@Tinywhisper11 these are some really nice and effective ways to you know express your ways out, to not let things pile inside you and make you uncomfortable in your own skin.

@AloyXmachina7786 I pray, watch comedys, and focus on video games - mainly not focusing on the bad is what works the most

What a lovely post!

For me, I have a few small habits - some that I do (or try to do) daily (e.g. bible time, prayer, vision board, time outside, exercise) and some that are specific to the moment.

Something specific to the moment that has been helping me a lot recently is using the serenity prayer in times of distress or decision. It begins like this: 'God, please grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.' It reminds me to think about what isn't within my control, which I pray about, submit to God, and do my best hold a gentle posture of acceptance towards; and what is within my control, even if it's just a baby step in the right direction. I also practice self compassion during these times, and do my best to hold space with whatever emotions come up and to comfort them. I like the Internal Family Systems framework, so I talk to the different 'parts'/emotions that are up and sometimes also do something somatic or sensory to self soothe (e.g. focusing on my breath, or touching parts of my body holding stress/tension/emotional pain and imagining warmth, care, and comfort flowing to those hurting parts of my internal system, gentle rocking if I'm down, or shaking/movement to release cortisol). I also try to ask myself if I need anything, or need to do anything, in response to what's come up and commit to doing that once I'm able (e.g. It could be something I need to communicate with someone, or sometimes even something as simple as a glass of water!)

@SilverWhiteWinters I keep this as a daily routine too of thanking God for everything. It just fills my mind with so much of positivity and a calmness just radiates all over my body. Amidst everything thats going on our own feelings get the best of us, getting us overwhelmed in so many situations. Thats the moment one seeks for inner peace and thats when we channel the energy that creates us.

@AloyXmachina7786 for me I like to isolate myself and just draw or listen to music I let myself cry I let myself be angry I let myself feel everything I overthink and my brain never shuts off but with music and art it’s a new way of expression I don’t care if it’s bad or maybe I clean my room it’s a pain now but it’s hard to think clearly in a messy place or but shut everything off including lights open the windows close your eyes and just sit there let the wind hit your skin and face and body and you might feel a little better or go on walks or something so little as doing a small favor for someone

@Centi1234 all of it just shows how simple and untangled you are in this crazy world. I do like to be productive but also just so basic about it.

@AloyXmachina7786 I turn to art, Spirituality and nature. When I have a lot of work in college just thinking about how beautiful the day is on campus and looking around really helps. I also like listening to instrumental. But definitely will aim to stay off my phone and do other things as well when going through a lot.
