Emotional tank
I read this today:
The first step to figuring out how to fill your emotional is to identify whether it is full. If your emotional tank is closer to empty than full you may feel overwhelmed or inadequate, you may find yourself losing your temper quickly or trying to avoid people. Basically, if you start behaving in ways that arent typical for you, then its time to check how full your tank is.
The next step is to figure out what fills your tank and what drains it. Start adding more activities that fill your tank. Also, pay closer attention to yourself: what situations drain you emotionally? Try to eliminate or lessen the frequency of those events. The busier your schedule is, the more depleted you may get and the more important it is to do the things that fill your tank.

What do you think of the text above? I would love to read your inputs!!
What a great post! This is really interesting and a great way to measure your emotional health and your behaviour too. I find that if my emotional tank is too full that I might get overwhelmed and irritable. I then sometimes find it tough to pin point why I am feeling that way! Ways in which I ease this might be yoga, hiking and spending time with my dog at the beach as he likes to splash in the water and chase me (it's good exercise!).

I thought this was a very insightful post. It was a gentle reminder to take care of our mental health. It is very easy for our tanks to go on E when we lead busy lives( Jobs, School, Children, Marriages, and other committments). I think this example conveys in a a simple way the importance of self-care. Self-care can also entail avoiding people and situations which are overwhelming for us. Thank you for sharing with the community.

I love this! I think that your emotional tank is something to look after and cherish also, by saying that I mean once you are almost full or really empty you dont feel like yourself so its a good idea to understand why you feel like that and accept that is what happens at those times.
Also it is important to note that with pressure your emotional tank shrinks and with no pressure it says its normal size. Pressure can take it to the extremes so be open in those situations to emotions you wouldnt expect.

This is a wonderful thread! I think I already knew what you were talking about, you put it in words very well.
I like to say that one has overload of emotions that makes them feel nothing or a lot of emotions together. Thus, they feel exhausted.
When I have an overload situation, I like to pause and stop with whatever I'm doing. Mostly, I'll try to write it out or read what other people write under the tags of the emotions I'm experiencing. It helps me feel less alone and understand what I'm feeling better. I also prefer to be alone and let my loved ones know, I won't be available for a while. I sleep, sometimes cry and just be. I like to think I need time and space to heal myself. The frequency with which this happens isn't definite. So sometimes, I like to talk it out. Whatever works at that time heh.
Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks so much for sharing!!!

You mean on Twitter, for example?

@ThankYouForLettingMeTryingToHelp
I don't use twitter. I meant to say it could be any platform where people write stuff. I specifically meant Tumblr as it is a huge thing for me.
I'll share an example of what I usually read -
"When you meet someone whos patient and kind and well meaning and yet some part of you is holding back. You have to know that it is no one elses job to break down the walls that youve built up – that is a fortress of your own responsibility. When you are not ready to give someone your whole heart out of fear of what theyll do with it, it is yourself thyat you must learn how to trust. Its yourself you must come back to, piece by careful piece as you learn that your heart is an endless, refillable vessel that does not deplete and fall apart when it is given away. It is yourself that you must learn to be alone with."
-----------------------------------
I cant call you because if I did, I would be forced to face the fact that one of my closest friendships has been reduced to calculated and pleasant small talk that is the total opposite of who we used to be. So, Im sorry, I wish I could do this, but weve spent months slowly drifting to the point that catching up now seems like a painful formality with someone who Ive already lost and may never get back.
----------------------------------
So basically along these lines. It really helps me!
@Sabella I have a Tumblr account so I am heading right now to see how that thing of the tags work.
Question: As an example, what you wrote above, comes under what tag?

@ThankYouForLettingMeTryingToHelp
The first one is actually by a friend I have in a group chat. Usually I search "writers on tumblr" "spilled writing"
Topic specific - friendship breakup, excerpts from a book I'll never write (people share amazing writing stuff under this tag!), spilled ink, etc.
If you'd like, I'd love to share some of the more writing pieces I personally found to be nice! 💙

Would you like to do that in forums? We can create a thread in some sub-community maybe? I don't know xD
Or I can PM you heh.
@Sabella I think it would be awesome if you can share them here: My diary. - 7 Cups Forum
PM would be awesome too.
And if you feel like creating a thread in some sub-community... awesome too!!

Thank you for your post and wonderful idea. I find the concept of a gas tank helps me think more clearly in less black and white ways. Some activities actually have a fill and deplete aspect.
For instance, if i go to a relaxation class, I also take into account the route to get there. There is construction in some parking areas and lots of pedestrians and people get cranky over spots. Some routes have freeway driving and others local. Certain routes pass by little streams and ponds with ducks. I notice that I will vary the route according to my needs. I almost always avoid the crowded parking lot, and I almost always choose either a parking space facing the trees, or is halfway, so there is less intensity regarding the parking space. Somedays when it rains or I feel especially cold, I pick a closer spot for self care. It makes me happy to be able to make these tiny choices that improve my self care and incrementally add to my gas tank. These tiny little changes makes the experience of my original intent to fill my gas tank, even more effective, or more depleting... I also find that if I tell myself that I am working on my personality trait of patience, that my experience and mood improves and I am less likely to let myself get rattled and have challenging emotions empty my tank!
Thanks for the great idea!
@Flowingstreams This that you suggest is something I had been omitting: small, little changes, can help us fill our emotional tank. Realizing that after reading your post has, actually, added a lot of positive emotions to my tank!!

Is it possible for an emotional tank to be in the negative? That's where I think it's at right now. The best things for filling it up is getting lots of hugs from my crew friends and spending time with them
@tinycactus809 I do not think it is possible for it to be negative. Being it negative would imply that after filling it up with some positiveness, it may become zero or "empty", which I do not think it is better than negative.
However, being able of figuring ways to fill it up (eg: being hugged by friends) is more than awesome: it is, actually, one of the first steps towards filling our emotional tank.
A hug from me to you (virtual... but I know it will still count
)

Hi! I don't know you, but if you would like a virtual hug from a friendly stranger, I can send you a safe hug, or I can give you a virutal flower.
I think of anything like "negative" as if it is compost. It is energy, and just like carbon dioxide it nurtures the plants. So my negative energy is the vibration the earth needs. This helps me release it :) I just give everything I've got to Mama earth and it's like compost to her. Hope that helps! I used to think when I was feeling bad, I was like poison, then I would hide away from others thinking I was protecting them but keep all the grief to myself. Now, I just think compost! What flowers will we grow from it?
Here's a flower for you! Hope you are having a better day!
