Mindfulness Check-In Oct 12
Hello All!
Perception is like the tip of an iceberg.
We do not picture challenges in a positive light. We see it as a source of stress, a setback, We caught up in the limited perception. The perception that if something portrayed in the negative shade is ONLY negative. If portrayed as positive, then ONLY positive it is. But, the truth is, everything has two sides. The proportion could vary but it depends on us how do we need to percept things around us.
Whatever we think actually impacts the view of our experiences. We think exactly what we want to believe. But in all this process, you impacting your resilience.
So, here are a few things you could do to develop or improve the habit of resilience in your daily life--
1. Notice how you experience the challenges. You see it as an unpleasant moment of the day. And, your mind, body, and emotions support that thought. You feel anxiety, a rush in your mind, the body feels like you are in front of a dragon. Things start to look difficult and beyond your control.
But here you go. You can change that. Pay attention to how your mind and body react when you encounter a challenge and then separate your perception about it.
One of thing I do to separate my perception is question myself that if XYZ (a person whom I admire and respect the most) would be in the situation, how would they have responded to it? It helps me to shift the perspective.
2. Accept the changes and uncertainty are part of life. To win a soccer game, you have to play. Similarly, to tackle a challenge, you have to accept it. Acknowledge it. Instead of thinking that "IT SHOULDN'T HAPPENED", take it as "OKAY, I CAN TRY THIS." You do not fail when you try something because either you get a result OR a lesson to learn.
3. Seek help, if needed. You cannot do everything on your own. You need people with unique skills which probably you do not have but you need them to tackle the challenge. Identify them and reach out to help. Like, when you are sick, you reach out to a physician. While when your car gets sick, you reach out to a mechanic. Know your people around you. And if you do not have them, then what are you waiting for? Build connections!
4. Represent yourself in a positive light to yourself. We are the biggest critic of our own actions. So need to set it aside and pay attention to your abilities and strengths. Remind yourself, "Okay thank you! I tried but seem like it didn't go as expected. But what could be the best thing to do now?"
5. Take care of yourself. Challenges can be hard on you. They can break your confidence and trust. They can overwhelm you. That is why you need breaks from time to time to relax and take care of yourself. Even if you do not want to, consider it as a period after a sentence that allows you to organize your thoughts into clear and concise sentences.

@ASilentObserver I LOVED the article! I always try and stay positive and I accept every challenge as a part of life. I know that are always two sides to things and I try to give each it's own attention if that makes sense! I do not dwell on the negative. A negative mind will never create a positive life!
@ASilentObserver
Wow Silent I like this. It fits perfect in my daily life now. I try really hard to allow myself to see both sides of situations. Sometimes it works tho-and other times I believe I don't have patience. When I allow myself to be open to both possible "real" issues of a situation I can then react in a good way.
@RumpleSteeleSkin WOW great reply! Thank you for sharing that!!!!
@ASilentObserver "Perception is like the tip of the ice berg." I LOVE that! Great post today. You are absolutely right! There are always two sides to everything and I always try to take both into account. Positivity is my way of life and I'm not going to change that!
@ASilentObserver Thank you for this post. I really struggle with challenging my negative thinking. I am also working on having a better view of myself. I've found that it helps me to focus on my successes in my life, things that I've achieved that are positive, to build my confidence up. But it's an ongoing struggle! I love this post but I feel like with major depression accomplishing all you listed is easier said than done. 😔 Your quote, "Perception is like the tip of an iceberg" reminded me of mindfulness meditation, and how it enhances my perception and helps me think and believe more positively. 💜
This is good..! Thanks.
@ASilentObserver
Thanks for the article Obs! It was really insightful. I'll try out the things you suggested as I'm in need of a change in perception :D
Moving into a new temporary place for a month while I look for a full time apartment here in Miami was challenging when I couldn't sleep because the bed is directly outside 2 loud air conditioners that run all night next to the window, the kitchen sink faucet doesn't have water pressure or hot water, there were no window shades for privacy or to darken the room, and the kitchen lights hum really loudly and annoingly.
1. Notice how you experience the challenges. I noticed I was uncomfortable, I was not able to sleep, I was cranky, I was worried, not having another place to go, thinking the worst, but then realized there are positives and I didn't want to "ruin" my month here in this otherwise comfortable place. I felt sick to my stomach, tightness in my chest, and didn't want to be here.
2. Accept the changes and uncertainty are part of life. Yep, they are.
3. Seek help, if needed. I asked the landlady to try another faucet in the kitchen and she is coming over tomorrow with the handyman. Yay. Talking to friends for emotional support. I didn't need help for the other parts of the challenge, and realized that I often don't sleep well the first night in a new place as I get used to all the new noises. Made it my policy to turn the kitchen lights off as I leave the room so I don't have to hear the buzz. I started a countdown until I leave, to motivate me to find my new apartment and remind myself that everything in life is temporary. And to make the most of each day I have here, alone, in sunny Florida.
4. Represent yourself in a positive light to yourself. I know I am great! Can't wait to have my own apartment to flourish and really start living up to my potential!
5. Take care of yourself. I am. Slept better last night. Exercising every day. Eating well. Taking breaks. Trying not to procrastinate too much on my work. Continuning the house search. Soon I will have to look for another temporary place if I don't find a great apartment to move into.
