Mindfulness Daily Check-In April 16, 2018

I often wonder how I can cope with grief and loss mindfully. It is not easy attending funerals or seeing people we love be less alert and interactive. Life is full of losses so I cannot run from it. I turn and ask myself "how can I cope with this moment?"

The first thing I do right now is stop. Feel my breath. Just be. That is all I seem to be able to do no matter what I face.

I rest here and after a while I feel an occasional heart beat. I hear the noises in the room and outside. I feel the breath in my nostrils going in and out. And I just rest. Here in this resting those other things are in "the closet", "out of sight, out of mind."

I invite you to sit with me for a few minutes and connect with yourself. If you care to, feel free to share some of your experience. But in any case we have a few minutes we share getting to know ourselves.

@soulsings Hi Soul! <3 How are you doing today? I hope your weekend was wondeful! :) This is a very important but difficult topic to discuss. Loss is never easy to deal with. I lost my father to cancer back in 2010, and I was only 14-years-old. It is 8 years this year, and I still am not over it. I can never get over his death, but I have come to terms with it slowly over time. At first, I ran from it and numbed my feelings, bottled everything in, pushed aside the pain. I was so angry and broken. But over time, I let myself become open to the pain and grief that his loss caused me, and I have been able to learn how to manage and cope on my own. It was not easy, and I am not entirely sure how I reached this point, but I am thankful that I was able to survive through it.

@SaimaK I am sorry for the loss of your father. It is never easy but time has helped me over the loss of my dad. I has been a couple years but still sadness pops up. A lot is the realization that my hopes and expcectations of what our relationship might have been like can no longer be realized.

Thank you for sharing your story ((hugs))

@soulsings Thank you, Soul. And I am sorry for the loss of your father as well. <3 It never is easy, and I completely undertand. I also experience sadness for the same reasons as well. It is so sad to lose someone in life so soon and not have them there for all of the biggest, and even lowest, moments of your life. But they are always with us no matter what. Thank you for sharing your story as well. ((hugs)) <3

@soulsings

I didn't do too good on this one. In the beginning, I felt what you described, like I was resting. But I have never actually gotten the chance to get over the loss of a very important person in my life. And memories kind of came back to me and I got really upset. Still feel kinda upset right now. I think I'm going to look for a listener for a moment but I did want to share this, because you always ask us what our experience was and I kinda figured that experience doesn't always have to be good if that isn't the case.

@JayTheBird14 I am sorry my post brought up feelings. You are right mindfulness is not always joyful stuff. Hope you find a listener and the support you need.

@soulsingsheart

HI Souls wow deep one today but right up my alley-thank you.

It is hard to see a loved on or friend die, loss ability to function in life, slow down, lose memory of things etc. To see one not remember you, or forget how to brush their teeth, or to keep saying "Are we home yet" and be homesad It is heart breaking to see daily as this is my job as well as their medical needs so they can continue staying in their homes.

I guess tbh no I don't run to mindfulness or if I do it I'm not aware of it. But I look at who they were before they gotten sick. Remember what they shared with me before they forgotten. Know that they were once a lawyer, the mayor, a teacher and so one. I do how ever have a hard time dealing with death if I have been working with the client for a long time. That bothers me. But for this I remember all the little chats I had with the person and them sharing they had a very happy life and were blessed and are ready.....

Souls I know everyone deals with this in their own ways. And yes mindfulness really can be very helpful in all this. hugz to you my friendheartheart

@RumpleSteeleSkin yes loss is so difficult for us as human beings. Gratitude can be a way to look beyond the loss to what you shared together. Thanks for sharing Rumple heart
