What I was really wondering, and I'm not sure if you can answer this or if this is different for everyone, but if Mindfulness can become a habbit?

As a student I've a lot of stuff to do (obviously), so I've been practising mindfulness to make handling all of my tasks more comfortable for me. I meassure the time I sit behind my desk and I check-up with how my body is feeling regularly so I can take care of myself properly (if I need a drink, some food, a break, a walk, sleep for a bit etc.).

But this is an ideal really, because there's still moments I realize I've been sitting and staring at my computer screen for hours without a break or that my head hurts because of lack of water. I'm improving, but I'm not quite there yet. I wondered, do you think things like this, being mindful of yourself, can become a habit, as in, that you notice things about yourself quicker?

Not sure if I explained this right, let me know if I didn't smiley

@JayTheBird14

I think it can become like driving the car, where you learn to follow the speed limits.

When you see the sign "50 km/h", and you are going "67 km/h", if you learn to routinely ('habitually') "read the signs", then you will know when you have to slow down.

But if you repeatedly ignore the signs, or maybe you're distracted by something, it can become an unconscious habit of going beyond speed limit. And you have to pay the price of well being for that...

I am learning this the hard way unfortunately...

Best of luck on your path :)

Wow, thank you for this wonderful comparisson, I feel like you're really on to something there.

I'm sorry you're struggling with it too, and I certainly hope you'll find a comfortable rhythm for yourself.

Best of luck to you too, take care wink

You know what, that's actually what my mom said to. To just install an alarm that goes off every 45 minutes. I guess that I should just try that next weekend then, thanks for the advise wink

HIya Jay wonderful question and believe it- it's asked alot!!! Just like everything else we do in life, it too becomes a habit. Like if you wake up and first thing you do is put ur feet into your slippers grab a robe. All the way to putting the dinner food away and cleaning up before you sit and relax and eat. Mindfulness can become a habit after doing it faithfully for 30 dayssmiley

I have used mindfulness everyday even if I am not feeling a lot of stress, just to keep myself in a more relaxed mind. Usually I listen to soft music and walking outdoors when the sun is shining. The warmth of the sun has always been helpful.

I feel the same way! It is lovely to take a walk when the sun is shining: the warmth of the sun is really useful for practising mindfulness as we can pay attention to how things feel. I totally agree with the soft music, I find it rather relaxing and calming. Take care :)

I'm so happy you allow yourself to practise mindfulness daily, because mindfulness it's just a cure for if you feel down or badly. It's more like a vitamin you take daily. After some time, your overall health and mental state will improve laugh

I hope that I am a mindful person, I try and have been practicing for years now. But one thing a friend said to me was that when I offered mindfulness as a coping technique for stress he said "isn't that just ignoring the problem? It doesn't go away it is still there so what's the point!?"

I wonder what everyone thinks and what are your thoughts?

@MistyMagic

Great question, Misty! :)

Mindfulness doesnt ignore any problems or challenges that we may have in our life situations. Rather, mindfulness allows us to accept them as they are rather than dwelling on chance or believeing that only once the problem is gone can we be at peace.

We can still try to improve our life situations, and we can utilize mindfulness to do this. Rather than dwelling on our problems 24/7, like when showering, hanging out with friends, doing homework, at work, or whatever we may be doing, we can be at peace during those times through accepting that yes, life is not perfect. However, during those previously mentioned life times, theres nothing we can do to improve our life situations and dwelling on how we could fix them will only take away peace from the activity at hand.

We can be mindful of time by setting time dedicated to improving our life situation and then allowing other times to just be without dwelling on the problem. I hope this makes sense <3

I'm using midfulness to identify my mood and why I feel a certain way. My emotions can change multiple times an hour, so being able to identify the feelings without getting caught up in all the feels. Like knowing that I feel anxious because of a past experience, and not because I am in actual danger. It's asking WHY am I feeling instead of WHAT am I feeling?
