Mindfulness Daily Check-In August 7, 2018
Hello everyone and happy Tuesday!
How is everyone doing today?

Today, I wanted to discuss an interesting topic in regards to mindfulness, which is what led you to discover mindfulness as well as when did you discover it. The reason for this is that we all have our own stories as to how we were led to practice mindfulness as well as how it helped us individually. Mindfulness is a gift, and I could not recommend it more. I am deeply thankful for it. I began practicing mindfulness unknowingly in 2014 during very difficult and testing times within my life. In complete honesty, mindfulness saved my life, and I am so deeply grateful to be a part of such a wonderful mindfulness community as it has helped me learn and grow even more. And so, I would like to hear everybody's stories if you feel comfortable with sharing!
Some questions for today:
What led you to mindfulness?
When did you begin practicing mindfulness?
Is there anything that you would like to add or suggest?

@SaimaK
HIya Saima good to see you today and thank you for this check in
What led you to mindfulness?
idk really remember what lead to me finding out about mindfulness, as I have been doing this for over 17 years. I think maybe it was when I went into hospital and someone shared on it.
When did you begin practicing mindfulness?
17 years ago
Is there anything that you would like to add or suggest?
Mindfulness can be in anyones life. It is for everyone. And yes I do understand this can become a debate as to some mental illnesses many believe it doens't work. That is ok. But mindfulness does work, it is just allowing yourself to view inside in those deep dark places that make us uncomfie.
@RumpleSteeleSkin Hi Rumple!
It is so good to see you today!
I am so glad that you have been practicing mindfulness for so long as you have helped me learn so much!
Thank you to whoever shared it with you!
I completely agree. At first, it may seem like it will not work, but you just need a little patience and hope in the beginning. Before you know it, you got the hang of it and it helps us in so many amazing ways.
Thank you so much for sharing, Rumple, and I hope you have a wonderful and mindful day!

@SaimaK
hi SaimaK, happy Tuesday to you too
. i see you are meditating. i am a big fan of meditation and it has helped me a lot so far.
From young age, must have been around 18 or so, i was always very interested in mindfulness and meditation and at that time i was surrounded by people (animal protectors) who had the same thinking. unfortunately, there were also a number of events in my life i could not deal with and i took the wrong path and became mindless with myself. Mindfulness and meditation went on and off in my life, i realized how important it is some years ago (bad event) and i started to change again to the positive. being here allows me to develop more mindfulness and also meditation became a "solid" routine which i never miss in a day.
@amiablePeace77 Hi Peace!
Meditation is amazing, and I love to meditate as much as possible. I am so glad that you are a big fan of it as well and that it has helped you immensely!
I am sorry to hear that you have gone through such difficult times as well, but I am so glad that you have been able to become positive, mindful, and meditate daily again. I am so happy for you!
Thank you so much for sharing with us all, Peace, and I hope you have a wonderful and mindful day!

Falling in love with an unavailable man led me to Buddhism, which finally led me to stop waiting for him and end it after more than 2 years waiting for him to become available. Grief and loss of ending with him led me to mindfulness last December, about 8 months ago, as it seemed like a natural extension of everything Buddishm was teaching: being wise is acknowleding reality. Taking wise action, right speech, right path, the middle way... mindfulness seemed like the right thing to do in order to become peaceful, wise, and take care of myself, my heart, heal, and learn for the next time(s). It's helped me get over that one love, and now, while dating, falling in love again and having it end and hurt, feeling grief and loss from losing men who I quickly rely on to be my emotional support... mindfulness is helping me realize what's going on, what I'm doing, and helping the pain not hurt so much.
This community is also helping with emotional support, helping me realize what I'm feeling and why, so it doesn't affect me so much, during this rocky hormone time in perimenopause when my body is over-reacting to extreme hormone changes and I'm moodier than I have ever been in my life. I used to be cool, calm, and collect, strong... I now have a new norm. Mindfulness is helping me deal with it, naturally.
Thankful for this practice and mindful living. Now I'm mindful that I turn to men I'm dating for emotional support quickly, and seek constant/daily support from them. I realize I rely on them and judge whether they would make a good partner for me by their ability to provide emotional support. Maybe that's not a good idea. The daily check-in's here are helpful reminders that I can look elsewhere for support. I'm an ongoing work in progress.
@onwardforevenmore Hello Onward!
I am so sorry that you have gone through so much pain and such difficulties, but I am glad that mindfulness as well as this community has helped you during such times. I am glad you are living mindfully, and I hope it continues to help you more and more as each day passes. I'm so very happy for you!
Thank you for sharing with us all, and I hope you have a wonderful and mindful day!
