Hello everyonesmiley I got a request recently on Active Listening Mindfully. hmmmm what is that? Isn't just showing active listening ok? Or is Mindful Listening and Active Listening the same?surprise

What is mindful listening? paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.

"I'm feeling really overwhelmed today-just been so busy."

"What-what did you say-....."

How often have you found yourself in a conversation at lunch or dinner sitting in a meeting at work or talking to a friend or partner and realize you have no idea what was just said? If you are anything like the average person, it happens every day. You might even be interested in whats being said but your mind has carried you off on one of its wanderings into the past or future, to something thats bothering you or to your to-do list. Our minds are often scattered and unruly, which is why the practice of mindfulness can be so important in meaningful, attentive conversation. You have to be present in order to listen and take in what is being said. You also have to be listening without your own agenda and without being busy formulating what you will say next.

Are we really present in all our chats we have online? Or are we messing with are dog? Our kids? At work? Watching Netflix??? How does it affect you in your every day life? Are you finding yourself say "What?" Let's try this together, and see if we can improve our mindful active listening skillssmiley

** In any conversation, you can use the person thats speaking as your object of mindfulness.Pay full attention to what he or she is saying.When your mind wanders away from what is being said, immediately and without judgment bring yourself back to the words of the person speaking. Repeat those instructions as many times as necessary. You will eventually strengthen your mental musculature to stay more focused and aware.

"We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that something deep inside us is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit."

I love reading what you have to say all the time. I love that I am able to come and go as I please with what you mentioned above and in the forums in general. Keep up the great work! @RumpleSteeleSkin I really like the idea of using the person's voice and what they are saying as the object of what we are being mindful of. Glad to hear this perspective. Thank you for sharing.

@soulsings

Hi Souls great to see you in check-insmiley Yes I to liked that "the voice" was the point of focus. But then I thought "Isn't that to be our focus any ways in active listening?" haha It's sometimes funny how we learn a skill and be reminded of how easy it is or that we already know how to use itcheeky
