Worry with a purpose cause chances areyour problem isn't that you have too many worries but that you have too few strategies for dealing with them. Sit down with a sheet of paper divided into three columns, and list all of your worries in the first column. In the second, write down the worst thing that can happen if what you're worried about comes true. In the third, list three or four strategies for dealing with "the worst" and circle the one that you think you can handle. Then do it! An actionable game plan is almost always an antidote to worry.smiley

But sometimes we can't just not worry-right guys? Like if a loved one is in hospital, just not knowing what's gonna happen next?

Or if you lose your job- rent and bills are due ASAP

Or your in college and fail an important test............

All these are legite reasons to worry-BUT worry also can get compulsive and overwhelming and affect out mental health as well as physical. Not to mention our lives surruoundings-it affects everything.

So even tho yes we will worry, how can we kinda control the level of worry and not let it ruin things?

Keep it in perspective
A good chunk of what we worry about happens to be things that we have little or no control over, like work layoffs. Ask yourself whether the worrying is really worthwhile. Whatever you're upset about, it's likely not as threatening as you think.Once you examine the threat and accept that it's unlikely or out of your hands, you will worry about it less.

Imagine the best-case scenario
Visualize yourself dealing with a problem head-on and resolving it successfully, If you don't know or can't fathom what the best-case scenario is, it becomes that much more difficult to achieve it. As new worries or challenges pop up, seek out a silver lining. "Whenever a new situation arises, immediately ask yourself, 'what's good about this?' "

Do what you can do today
Are you a procrastination queen? It's probably making you more anxious than you realize. "Many people have a habit of not handling issues until they become overwhelming," "Deal with what you have to deal with today." A big work project will only seem more impossible if you wait until the 11th hour to tackle it. Instead, break it down into mini tasks you can do one day at a time during the week before it's duethe very act of divvying may seem intimidating, but once you make that first dent, you'll feel much better.

Give yourself a pep talk
Often a little self-encouragement is all you need to snap out of a bout of worries. Sometimes we're our own worst enemies. To make nice with yourself, pretend for a day that you have a cartoon bubble over your head, and catch everything you say to yourself. Write it down, and read it back. Negative self-talk keeps you buried in your pain. Instead, offer yourself the same enthusiasm and support you'd give your best friend. It feels artificial at first, but when you catch yourself saying something mean, stop and make it nice.

Wow look at all those skills and ways to lesson our worries-breathe deep RumpleheartWe can support one another on this by being kind and understanding to all the worries. We can offer reminders of what mindfulness can do to calm us.

Please if you feel comfortable-share your worries. Also try one of these skills. hugzheart

@RumpleSteeleSkin Hey RSS, nice post. I am a worrier. I am a catastrophizer (is this really a word? lol) and a ruminator . I have learned to self talk and put things in perspective, but it doesn't always work. I have some friends that help me get things back into perspective, I try to look for good things in my day. I've started meditating mindfully ever nite before bed. I'm finding this helpful. I guess I need to worry less about my worrying laugh

@RumpleSteeleSkin Hi Rumple! :) <3 I hope you are having an amazing Wednesday! <3 This is such an important post, and I often struggle to remind myself this as well! Stress, anxiety, and pressure from problems are understandable, but we cannot let them hold us back, make us feel worse, etc. We have to keep going and strive for the best! :)

While I was reading this... and it actually hit the panic button in me because it's a real part of my life at the moment (breathe... just gotta breathe) .... the thought popped in my head -- Quit looking at life through the microscope - step back and use the telescope, see the stars.

I like the break it down to three columns and develop three strategies -- though as a decision tree thinker, that may be very hard to manage. See outcomes is the name of the game - multiple variables deliver multiple outcomes.

Procrastination -- it reminded me of a quote I saw... When you say you don't have time, you're actually saying I don't want to.
Which lead to the thought, Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow?

Pointing those to out -- we put off things that make uncomfortable or we dislike. That involves thought engineering -- how can I make this horrible task more fun? Gamefy it ... reward yourself when you get it done. If anyone else loves to have an excuse to splurge on something - let it be an ice cream or trip to the thrift store - it's me and I using it to motivate me to do things I don't care for... yeah, I'll use it. (a lot at work)

Derailed my thoughts -- I think it was the ice cream :D

@diplomaticconfucious

Hey there Diplomatic smileyaaww Im sorry this created a bit of panick in you hugsheartHey that was good self cheerleading talk there-I like that!!It is a good idea to come up and problem solve on this as then you can better handle some of lifes stressors in some skills you have already planned out.aahhh yes procrastination is a bugger I say. And yes that attitude also goes along with it. I say small steps and don't put things off. As that to can lead to stress. Look at those good ways on how to reward yourself and make things pleasant. haha in that case I say lets buy a case of ice cream pops and reward ourselves alot at work. You are doing a good job hunheartheart

Today's mindfulness exercise is cheering my son on at pole vault since they are doing play offs. Hoping he will do 10 feet again or higher. Should be a fun day.
