Mindfulness Daily Check-In November 12, 2017
Patience
Hey, everyone!
Happy Sunday! Lets discuss a mindfulness attribute called Patience.
When we are impatient to get to the next event in our lives, we miss out on the opportunity to be fully engaged in our lives and the experiences unfolding around us in the present moment. Our awareness and thoughts are preoccupied with the future rather than with what's happening in the present moment.
We often take experiences for granted when we are impatient with other people, getting things done, or at work. When we are impatient, we might miss the little details, feelings, and sensations that can bring us contentment and even joy in the present moment.
However, if we are patient with ourselves, understanding that whatever will happen is going to happen in its own time, we can be present and enjoy the current moment.
Question:
1.) How can you practice patience today?
Hi Emunah, thanks for the good reminder. Today I will try to be patient with my throatache and not expect it to
... be better superfast
@EmunahHere
One way I can practice Patience is to be quick to listen and slow to speak.Sometimes people can just get on your nerves, and I am sure someone has felt the same about me. So I try to keep that in mind which for me is patience.
@scarletPear1945
Thank you for checking-in today, Scarlet 😊
I like what you said: Be quick to listen and slow to speak. When we reverse those, we tend to not communicate as well, and we miss out on being fully present in our conversations.
Definitely true that people can get on our nerves! Being patient with someone who is irritating or annoying us helps us not react as quick based on these feelings and can help us feel more peaceful and connected with that person ❤️
@EmunahHere
Such wise words, thank you for sharing!
I struggle with impatience everyday in numerous situations, even when doing mindfulness meditation (I started 10 days ago), and I totally agree what we should understand that whatever will happen is going to happen in its own time.
The present is the only time we have for granted, the past - as the name says - has already passed and can't be relived, while the future is uncertain. So we should all just try to appreciate every moment as if it was the last, living in the present, for a healthier mind and, thus, life.
I also read somewhere that living in the past brings depression and trying to do so for the future brings anxiety, which makes sense to me.
So, I can practice "patience" today by: 1) Keep trying to focus more while meditating and 2) Don't try to do things too fast.
@PedroMAlves
You have some great points here! 👍🏻
First, its awesome that you are trying to be mindful in your life ❤️ Congrats on going 10 days of mindfulness meditation! It is true that we can become impatient during mindfulness meditation, whether its a recorded exercise or we are simply engaging in whatever activity is in front of us.
You are right in that we only really have the present moment to enjoy. The past is done, and the future is uncertain. Living in the present can help decrease our symptoms of depression and anxiety.
I think your goals of trying to focus more during meditation and slowing down while doing tasks can help you cultivate some patience in your mindfulness practice. ❤️ Awesome work!
@EmunahHere
Thanks a lot, I appreciate your words! (and sorry for the late reply)
@EmunahHere
Hello Emunah thank you for this check-in
I totally feel lately all these check ins are hitting home for me
I know it doesn't mean nothing bad, just that my life has gotten a bit busy and I am not up on practicing mindfulness.
1.) How can you practice patience today?
I can do that right now. By being in 1 thing at a time. Pay attention to that only and not compining all the other things that need done.
thank you

@RumpleSteeleSkin
Heya, Rumple! 😊 I think we can all relate to these check-ins because it is hard to remember all of the mindfulness attributes/elements and all of the different ways we can practice, especially when we have so much going on in our lives with so many emotions to experience and process ❤️ It is definitely not a bad thing to have these check-ins hit home for us as they speak to and are meant for all of us!
Focusing on one thing at a time is a great way to practice patience, so well done ❤️
I feel now, I have been patience overload, and in some ways allows people to walk all over you. Sometimes patience can be a pain than a virtue.
@knowledge57
Hey 😊 Thank you for checking-in! I think you raise a good point that needs to be addressed so that we can know the difference between being patient and being mistreated.
By definition, patience means the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.
Being patient with others should not mean that people are allowed to mistreat us or continue to mistreat us. Instead, having patience allows us to control how we react to the people who mistreat us. Rather than responding with anger and violence to people who mistreat us, when we are patient, we can pause to reflect on our feelings and thoughts so that we can communicate in a more clear and helpful way that we dont appreciate their behavior towards us.
I hope that this makes sense, and thank you for bringing this up ❤️
@EmunahHere
Yes I do understand, thanks for your response. As with all things, even patience has its limits when people take advantage. I have learnt over the years, patience should be maintained with a hint of assertiveness. This way I think you shine a little more better with people around you.
@knowledge57
I hear you, though ❤️ it is frustrating to feel like we are the only ones who give/are patient or take an initiative to keep a relationship/situation functioning. It can feel like we are being trampled on when others arent treating us right or putting in more effort to make sure our needs are met as well. I am sorry that you are feeling overloaded today ❤️
@EmunahHere
i am much more patient with others than with myself. i like to settle things in the "now" rather than lateron, do not like to make people wait if i feel they need something rather fast. today i have to be patient until i am able to finish a task.
@amiablePeace77
Hey, Peace 😊
It sounds like youve got a good goal of finishing a task before you think about the next one ❤️ It can be really hard to do this when we feel like everyone or everything needs served or done at once, but like we said above, everything has its time and place, and we will get there!
@EmunahHere
thanks Emunah 😊
I'm going to try and practice patience through practicing acceptance. What I mean by that is thinking something like, "I can't make what I want come any faster than it'll happen. It won't happen if I neglect this moment and fail to do what I can to build towards achieving it in this moment."
@Zeraphim
Hey ❤️ Good to see you!
I like how we can overlap the mindfulness attributes in our lives, and I think you gave a great example of how acceptance and patience can intersect each other 😊
I also like how you put that our power to act is only available in the present moment and by focusing our awareness in this moment, we can work towards achieving any goals that we may have. ❤️
Yeah, i am often not very patient. It causes some troubles in my life. For example the carving for distraction, or the next juicy piece of information fuels my fuzziness. For example wanting to answer an important mail, but geting already bored by the couple of seconds that the mail program takes to start, the addicted mind already switched to youtube or reddit or other easy content provider.. the Reasons forgotten, times dissapears. But not in the wholesome way.
Similiary this should be my gratitude journal but i got distracted by mindfulness.
Woe.
but i am thankfull for the community, the natural phenomena ( we got the awesomests sun rise today) and the warm inside to shake the cold of fall.
@lucidpanic I like your post really much. As I can only upvote it once, please take this comment as a second upvote
Thanks for sharing
Hugs from a fellow with similar struggles (if you want them).
Seeing you getting aware of your patterns and change them, and those beautiful expressions of gratitude are really inspiring.
@lucidpanic
Thank you for checking-in 😊
It is definitely hard to be patient when things dont happen as quickly as we want them to. It is easy to become bored like you say and easy for the mind to wander to something else. When our minds wander, it is hard to be aware of the present moment, and we feel like weve lost time or wasted time sometimes. But, its okay❤️
Our minds naturally wander and get bored. The key is to bring our awareness back to the the present moment when our minds wander. We can do this by being patient with ourselves and giving ourselves space to notice that we might be feeling bored or impatient.
Heat, Community, and the sun rise are all great things to be thankful for ❤️ practicing gratitude can help us appreciate whats happening in the present moment.
