Mindfulness Daily Check-In November 4,2018

Wow life sure is difficult, hard, unfair, just grrrrr sometimes. Right? There are times when we feel anger, anxiety, grief, embarrassment, stress, remorse or other unpleasant emotions.Don't you just want to escape the pain, drown it out or push it away somehow? We may begin a mental struggle with the pain trying to mentally talk our way out of it, or we distract ourselves with activities or drown it out with food or drink or sometimes do very risky behaviors that harm ourselves. All these ways of avoiding pain only mask it in the long run. Avoidance creates suffering and keeps us from living fully.
Through mindfulness you can learn to turn your difficult emotions into your greatest teachers and sources of strength. How? Instead of ‘turning away from pain in avoidance we can learn to gently ‘turn towards what were experiencing. We can bring a caring open attention toward the wounded parts of ourselves and make wise choices about how to respond to ourselves and to life.
1. Stop Turn Towards
Once you have become aware of the feeling, stop for a moment. Take a deep breath and then ‘sit with the anger, shame, guilt, anger, anxiety, frustration and fear. Dont inhibit it, suppress it, ignore it or try to conquer it. Just be with it with an attitude of open curiosity and acceptance.
2. Identify The Emotion
Acknowledge the emotion is there. If you are embarrassed, you can specifically recognize that feeling. You can mentally say to yourself, for example, I know there is embarrassment in me.
3. Acceptance Of What Is
When you are embarrassed, or feeling another difficult emotion, you dont need to deny it. You can accept what is present. Look into how you are feeling with this feeling and try just to be "still" with it and not judge.
So if you like share here on some difficult emotions you struggle with. Also how can mindfulness help you deal with them?

there was a time when i struggled with an OCD thought disorder, concerning how to escape from life. i would hold on by remembering all the times i had failed, how much the body clings to life; eventually i realized that the thought was irrational, because i believe that we carry our life with us into death and beyond, so there is no escape. i would tell myself those things when the thoughts became compelling, and even overwhelming. it was not until i realized that those thoughts were caused by a malfunction of the brain that i really began to get free of them, that i could dismiss them more easily as being delusions, irrational, not real.
thus it is with all thoughts and emotions, they are generated by the brain, based on its current state of function and its past patterns observation. the problem is: the brain is very subjective: it does not always see what actually IS, but more often what it Expects to see~! this is why "eye witness testimony" is so unreliable. it misses important things, and confuses other things with something inside its own imagination. therefore, i now tell myself, that i MAY be seeing what is happening, but i can't be sure; i MAY be having a justifiable emotional alert, but i might be having some kind of "flashback". i am still working on healing my perceptions of the past, my story, if you like, to make it a more rational, understandable, verifiable version of 'reality' (what ever THAT is).
not sure this has all been to the point, but it is what came to me from the Questions put forth.
@GustyOne4U
HI Gusty glad you dropped in
Trying to grab hold of OCD thoughts really can be hard and very tricky. It is good to hear that you found a method that helped you dismiss them more easily, and knowing they were not real for you. I do agree that the brain is well sillified and we react more to the feelings and thoughts then more so by facts. That is why mindfulness teaches us to observe the facts only. Not our feelings or thoughts. Once we know the true facts then we realise that our actions are more real and accurate.

wow, this is a real deep topic.
turn towards - identify - accept
One emotion I struggle occasionally with, is when I want to express something and it comes out wrong, Sometimes I instantly freeze and the thought "What have you done there" pops in my mind occupying the whole space "upstairs" (might be not a lot of space, but there is some
), then Mr. "I told you so" comes in and beats me up. Basically, it's an childhood issue which I am working on. Mindfulness (and of course 7 cups) helped me to accept what is happening and to endevour to correct the image of myself created by by the mental event.

@amiablePeace77
HIya sweet Peace nice to see you
Yes part of mindfulness yes-is to turn into our emotions. Kinda like acceptance. I really forgot of the skill name but well it means "turn in" and not away. awww hun not being able to fully express what you need to yes can be hard. hugs to you
Can I ask you something please? Why do you think you have done something wrong? Is it kinda for you a normal thing to feel it's your fault you can't express yourself fully at times?
Wow Peace I do love your attitude of not only acceptance but also pushing forward! Good job for you!! I also at times can get tongue tide or something very close/sensitive to me. I get that feeling in my throat right before I'm gonna do some heavy crying and I can't catch my breath. But I've learned with mindfulness it has me STOP slow down and breathe, give myself credit for trying. Try again at what I am trying to share.
Peace thank you for sharing this here, it reminded me of long ago how I was and how mindfulness and support brought me to how I am now.
@RumpleSteeleSkin
I believe we all say things sometimes which come out different than intended, we want to be nice but when we read it again at a later time or remember what we said mindfulness kicks in and tells us - that's not what you meant, what you wanted to say but it's out already. A good solution is really think what you want to say, check it and only then let it out
