@RumpleSteeleSkin

Hey, Rumpe heart Thank you for your check-in.

I think it's good to check-in with our definitions for mindfulness because they may evolve as we experience new things or learn new information.

To me, mindfulness means being fully aware of what's happening around me (people, activities, sights, smells, sounds) and inside of me (thoughts, feelings, emotions) during the present moment. I can engage all of my senses if I want. I am not thinking of past or future thoughts. I am non-judgmental of my thoughts, feelings, or emotions, realizing that they are not me. I may be feeling some anxiety, but my awareness of my anxiety is not anxious. If my mind wanders to the past or future, I acknowledge that it wandered, and ground myself to the present moment again by focusing on my breath. I also believe that mindfulness is available to me at every moment, during any activity.

Emunah glad to see you here in check-insmiley

I too- think it's really important at times to check in and see how people are doing and thinking. Not to say right or wrong, but to support those that are uncertain- and support those that are excelling and really liking mindfulness. You explained mindfulness to a tee!! Good job. I couldn't of said it better then you didsmileyyes

to me it means being aware of what i think and do and the consequences for myself, other living beings, nature wherever that might be

To me it means being fully aware of what I'm doing right now. I understand the consequences, feel my presence, and accept what might come out with this like feelings, smells, tastes, sensations, etc.

@RumpleSteeleSkin Hi Rumple thanks for checking in :)

Today I found myself falling back into a depression phase and it made me stress. I've been practicing mindfulness and meditation regularly these past months and living a healthy lifestyle(diet, exercise, yoga, quitted alcohol cigarettes).

As soon as I noticed it I felt angry and stressed. "All my efforts are pointless" "I'll never get out of this" "What if I'll spend my life like this ?" "I'm not strong enough to fight it" "I hate this life" "I need to get out of this". I smoked again and felt mad at me for ruining my efforts even more.

I lived this many many times and I know where this path lead.

This one is a bit different though. I decided to focus on my breath as I did a lot these last months. Well funny thing, my breath is still here and I can still focus on it. This has not changed. As I practiced it, some distance grew between me and my thoughts and feelings. I accepted what was there. I stopped trying to avoid it, run away from it or fight it. It's not like the depression and anxiety instantly vanished but more that my attitude of noticing what is here, accepting it, and kindly refocusing my attention to the present moment helped me create the space needed to live with it. And I found myself smiling, which is not something I usually do in a depressive phase lol.

So to answer the question I'll say that to me mindfulness is not drowning in the waves of life, fighting them, avoiding them, but simply noticing them and being with them.

For me mindfulness isn't being fully aware of everthing. That can be stressful and that's not how our body and minds work. We filter things continuously without being aware of it.

For me mindfulness is grounding yourself in the present and adjusting your filters (at least for the moment) to achieve this grounding.

I hope I didn't offend anybody. There are differnt definitions and that's ok.
