Mindfulness Daily Check-In September 16, 2017
Hiya everyone!! Hope this is the start to a great weekend :)
Today's check-in is going to be all about mindfulness and sounds. The most common mindfulness meditation instruction is to listen to your breath. But that's not the only thing you can notice when you sit down the meditate - some people use a bell or gong to create a ringing sound. This is a good way to start and end a mindfulness session, as it reminds us that we are creating a space for our silence.
Even when we are not actively practicing mindfulness, we can still notice sounds all around us. When you are taking a walk, what do you hear? There is so much life around us, and an easy way of practising mindfulness is to pay attention to the senses, listen to your surroundings and reflect on then.
Discussion ideas!
Give an example of a sound that you really enjoy or just notice: it could be the crunching of leaves when you step on them, or the sound your kettle makes when the water is boiled. Tell us about this sound, how it makes you feel, when you noticed it and anything else.
Thank you for checking in today! :) <3

Hi Love
What a great check-in today-another simple reminder of how we can be a bit more mindful in the daily things we do but DON'T notice much. Well I have 2 sounds that I really like but well life makes things fast. One is the sounds of water. I so go jello-like and relax on this. My turtles tank is what I hear all day every day, but lately it gets on my nerves. So when I focus on the water running out of the filters I like visualize it as a waterfall or stream. Then I go all "jello-like. The other is when I drive I like hearing my tires going over wet pavement. Idk really how to describe this, but it is a soothing noice for me.
@RumpleSteeleSkin
Hello Rumple :) I really like that these sounds make you feel relaxed. I noticed that the sounds you picked have water in them - water is a sound that a lot of people appreciate, in the form of rain, the sea, waterfalls and more. You've chosen some great everyday examples for you <3
@peppermintlove Hello there, thanks for the great post !
What do you mean by "reflect on them" ?
I also really like the sound of rain and the sound of wind in the leaves.
The sounds of children playing is nice too
@politeAvocado7234
Hey there! So what I mean by reflecting is to just really think about your surroundings; for example if you are noticing birds chirping, have a think about what exactly you are hearing. What does it sound like, how does it make you feel, where is the sound coming from, etc? This is a simple way of practising mindfulness, and can be very easily done!
Those sounds you have chosen are great - I especially love the sound of wind in the leaves! Thanks for checking in :) <3
@peppermintlove Thanks :)
When I'm out walking, I notice birds chirping, the whoosh of cars driving past, the hum of engines and A/C units, the beeping of cross walk signs (which indicate it's safe to cross), the wind rustling leaves in the trees and on the ground, my foot steps, the sound of my breathing and my heartbeat in my ears (if I'm feeling fatigued), the sound of peoples' voices, the sounds of construction vehicles. There's lots of things to hear when I tune in.
@peppermintlove
now this might seem to be a bit strange but the noise of a lawn mower creates an instant happy feeling in me (do not think i want lawn mower recordings now, no). when i was a child (living in a colder country than now) that noise would mean it is getting warmer, strawberry time, shorts and socks and ice cream (in those days i like ice cream a lot). it made me exited of the coming and much wanted summer.
