Mindfulness Daily Check-In September 2, 2017
Hey everyone! I hope you are all enjoying your weekends :)
So today I thought we could check in on sleep and how mindfulness can affect that. Teenagers should be getting around 9 hours of sleep, and adults should be getting at least 7 hours. I know that quite a lot of people have a lot of difficulty falling asleep, and this makes it hard to get the correct amount of sleep each night.
Introducing a mindful bedtime routine can really help you fall asleep easier, and by meditating in the evening can help to de-stress and create a peaceful mood so you can get to bed.10 minutes before you go to sleep can make a difference; and another important thing is keeping your phone switched off as it can affect the quality of your sleep.
Here is a link to a few simple exercises that can help you fall asleep quicker: https://www.nosleeplessnights.com/sleep-hygiene/relaxation-techniques/
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
1 - how important do you feel sleep is to you?
2 - do you feel like you are getting enough sleep?
3 - have you ever practised mindfulness before going to bed?
Thank you so much for checking in today, enjoy the weekend and get a good night's sleep <3

1. Sleep isnt important to me. I feel worse when i have more sleep. 2. I feel like i get too much sleep. 3. I have not
@justhelp643
Hey there! You might not think sleep is important, but we really don't appreciate the value of sleep. It is essential to get the right amount of sleep in order to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle. This website has a lot of information on the importance of sleep: https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/sdd/why
Thank you for checking in, and I'd like you to try out a mindfulness exercise before you go to bed tonight :)
@peppermintlove
Nice post!
1) How important do you feel sleep is to you?
I think its really important for me and thast because in a busy day you will feel tired if you havent taken enough sleep
2) Do you feel like you are getting enough sleep?
Hmm I dont think I always get enough sleep. Sometimes I have sleeping problems and either cant sleep or oversleep so in both situations I still feel tired
3) Have you ever practised mindfulness before going to bed?
I have once but I usually put meditation music for 8 hours while sleeping that way I fall asleep easier
@SmileyPower
Hiya! I totally agree that sleep is important so you don't feel tired.
About 40 million people in the US suffer from long term sleep disorders each year and 20 million people experience occasional sleep problems. There are lots of ways of preventing sleeping problems, such as having a regular sleeping routine at the same time each night, and avoiding caffeine in the evenings.
I think your idea of meditation music is wonderful - a lot of people would benefit by doing the same thing, and I think it can really help you drift away into a peaceful sleep.
Thank you for checking in :) <3
Lately I have been listening to meditations or mediation music on YouTube as I go to sleep. If I don't I can't get my mind to slow down and sleep! I am a 10 hr a night person, if I get less I'm grouchy.
I do love to sleep. It's sometimes the closest thing to peacefulness I can get.
I am struggling right now because I can get a full night's rest and be exhausted in 5 hours of regular activity. I need to see if it's my thyroid, my depression, or my mental meds.
@peppermintlove
1 - how important do you feel sleep is to you? VERY!
2 - do you feel like you are getting enough sleep? At the moment, yes
3 - have you ever practised mindfulness before going to bed? I try to everynight when I remember
(how do I get added to the tag list?)
1 - how important do you feel sleep is to you? Well I don't really get much sleep so it really isn't that important to me
2 - do you feel like you are getting enough sleep? Not really
3 - have you ever practised mindfulness before going to bed? I'm gonna be honest practising mindfulness is the last thing on my mind when I'm trying to sleep.
@astray
Hiya! Sleep is extremely important as it plays a vital role in your physical health. For example it supports healthy growth and development, it is involved in the healing and repair of the heart and it affects how your body reacts to insulin. Practising mindulness before you go to bed can promote a better sleep and just by doing a few simple breathing exercises you will feel more relaxed and in a more comforting state suitable for sleep. If you feel like you aren't getting enough sleep, I would recommend making a few adjustments to your daily routine to ensure you get the correct amount of sleep :)
Thank you for checking in today, enjoy your weekend and I hope you sleep well! :) <3
@peppermintlove well I'm an insomniac so that kind of plays a huge role in me not being able to sleep
@peppermintlove
Peppermint hi great mindfulness check-in
Sleep plays a very important role in life in general. But dealing with mental health issues makes it very important so symptoms or triggers stay down. I use mindfulness grounding exercises if I can not fall asleep. But normally I am the one on the phone or computer or even netflix staying awake and fighting sleep.
That you for this reminder
Good sleep is very important to me, without enough and good sleep i cannot focus well and also might get irritated. every night i listen to positive affirmation meditation and in between to any other kind of relax meditation so that i am in good spirits in the morning.
@peppermintlove
Interesting topic :)
1 - how important do you feel sleep is to you?
Very important and I love sleeping lol
2 - do you feel like you are getting enough sleep?
Yes! Sometimes more than enough
3 - have you ever practised mindfulness before going to bed?
Yes, when I dont feel sleepy on my sleeping schedule
Hi there! Thanks for the great check-in about a very nice topic!
1 - how important do you feel sleep is to you?
To me, sleep is very crucial because I have had insomnia before and I know what lack of sleep can do to me. Sleep is really very important so that the brain gets the rest that it deserves.
2 - do you feel like you are getting enough sleep?
There are more days when I feel like I get less sleep and lesser days when I feel like I get enough sleep. Normally nowadays, I mostly get to sleep unless I am very high on anxiety.
3 - have you ever practised mindfulness before going to bed?
I have tried a few things but maybe I need to find something more solid because the things I have used till now.. they don't always help. I think the link that you have provided will help !e with that.
@compassion4you14
Hiya! I totally understand about the insomnia part, I've had it before as well and I agree that a lack of sleep is really not good for your health. It would be really cool if you found a successful mindfulness routine that works best for you - because they can really help! Thank you so much for checking in, and I hope you get a comfortable night's sleep :) <3
