Mindfulness For Easily Distracted People

One of my favourite ways to concentrate has always been to draw and doodle, which meant that my exercise books at school were horrors to behold, but the information went in. As it turns out, apparently this isn't sloppiness, it's actually a valid way to think deeply, hold onto information and relax (thank you PsychologyToday).

Lately, 'adult colouring books' have become a bit of a thing, climbing their way up the bestseller lists and taking over acres of liberal print media singing their praise. I found a really lovely mental health blog here that reviews all of these books. There's now some science to say that spending time colouring in is actually really good for you, so that's all the excuse I need to get my colouring pencils out.

If you'd like to have a go, you can find some great resources here, there's a blog that has collated a lot of free designs ready to be printed out and coloured in. There's also a better organised and laid out one here.

Here are some of my picks

Black White Mustard - The art student in me melts a little at the sight of these beautiful geometric designs, created by Maria Ljungeld.

Print Mandala - Some beautiful mandala designs, all computer generated, but no less lovely

Welsh Pixie - A little more organic, and she has an amazing flair for paisley designs

Fantastic Cities - Unbelievably intricate cityscapes by Steve McDonald. More intended to be bought as a book, but you can find some free print outs here.

Colorfy - An incredible app that lets you colour on the go!

And if all else fails, about half of Pinterest seems to be colouring in sheets, so you can always try that.

Happy colouring!

I must confess I've become a colorer. ☺️. I started with the Mindfulness Coloring book. It is relaxing and focusing. I also downloaded Colorfy for on the run coloring on my phone. Lol

Great call, I've never even heard of that, but I had a look and I think I'll be downloading it soon ❤ I've added it to the OP, thank you so much for the recommendation

You also might want to look at Enchanted Forest by Johanna Basford. She has a couple good ones! 😄

I usually go onto youtube and play one of their study concentration music when I'm working on my laptop. I find that I go through hours of solid work with minimal distractions with it's playing in the background. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPni755-Krg

Love this! I would even say that doodling helped me stay more concentrated rather than distract me (like most professors believe). I have tried the colorfy app and love it! Can't wait to look at these other resources that you shared. Thanks <3

For me keeping busy is important to not letting my mind run wild. It can be painting or raking leaves just as much as doodling or drawing. It could be a poem or a song or just following my breath. It could be watching leaves fall or clouds pass by. Ever see images in the clouds? That is mind doodling!
