"You let go and accept change for 2 reasons-Either you leaned enough you want to, or you been hurt enough and you have to-"

Hi Community- today I a chilly day but the sun is so trying to come out and bless me with some wonder rays of warmth. I woke up today and was mindful to my animals needs and my kids loud noisessmileyI also was being mindful on how I was feeling and thinking about the "change" on 7cups. I choose not to let myself go down the negative road. No- it's not easy, And it doesn't mean I agree-just means I am accepting "of" the change. So today I wanted to offer up a skill to help us all with CHANGE. WE ALL READY??laugh

Radical Acceptance Skill

Radical acceptance is about accepting life on lifes terms and not resisting what you cannot or choose not to change. Radical acceptance is about saying yes to life, just as it is.

-oh boy that doesn't sound easysurprise

There are many misconceptions about what radical acceptance a skill taught through DBT.actually looks like. One of the biggest myths is that radical acceptance means agreeing with what happened. People assume that acceptance is just to approve no matter what!Radical acceptance doesnt mean any of these things. It simply means that you are acknowledging reality, You are acknowledging what happened or whats currently happening. Because fighting reality only intensifies our emotional reaction.

We might fight changes by judging the situation situation. We might fight the change by saying It should or shouldnt be this way, Thats not fair! or Why me?! surprise

Fighting reality only creates suffering. While pain is inevitable in life, suffering is optional. And suffering is what happens when we refuse to accept the pain in our lives, said Van Dijk

By practicing radical acceptance your reactions are less intense, and they dont last as long as they would if you focused on fighting. Another benefit is that you typically spend less time thinking about the situation. And when you do think about it, it triggers less emotional pain for you. People often describe a feeling of being ‘lighter, ‘relief, ‘like a weight has been lifted. With acceptance, your suffering dissipates. The pain doesnt disappear (though it might over time). But because you arent suffering, the pain becomes more bearable.

Some Radical Acceptances can be and not limited to:

* Accepting how you feel and think about change

* Accepting how changes are made on here and why

* Accepting there is no room other then to "accept" the change

Do you all see what radical acceptance is?

Please use this space to voice how you feel and are thinking and coping with new changes here on 7cups. Let's all remain supportive pleaseheart

CHANGE - I like to comment to change in my life

my initial reactions were astonishment - disbelief - resistance - worry/sometimes anger - possibly isolation - sadness - trying to see things from a different perspective - acceptance - "make the best out of it"

today i skip most of the steps and try to accept change and make the best out of it straight away. Change is always on the way, life is not rigid.

I'm interviewing for a full-time job today. The timing is not great b/c I'm still in graduate school, but the opportunity is hard to pass up. I'm trying to prep myself for the change that having a full-time job will create and learn that I'm going to have to let go of some of the daily routines and comforts that I've grown accustomed to with only working part-time. If I get the job, I'm going to have to accept a new schedule and new constraints on my free time. These changes will not be bad, they just are what they are and are necessary for moving forward with my career.
