Ways To Deal With Emotions...

Ways To Deal With Emotions!

We all have emotions! Different kind of emotions. Some are good ones which we want to feel again and again! But, some are uncomfortable one! The ones we try hard to avoid or ignore because it makes us feel bad!

Most of us were/are caught by some difficult emotions like anger, frustration, rejection, anxiety, sadness and others.

However, you know good thing is that with the practice of mindfulness we could try to minimize or reduce the INTENSITY of these emotions. We can't completely erase it but yeah probably able to minimize its impact on us.

So, here're couple of ways I practice.

1. Accept that it is just a feeling. It's temporary!

Every emotion you've, it's temporary. Probably couple of days or a week or a month or maybe couple of minuts only?

Whenever we go through a difficult emotions, our mind get engaged in thoughts. All kind of! And it seems like it's messed up and there is no way. But, there is a way!

Feed your mind, "It's just a feeling. Temporary one." When you accept this, it allows you to have clear thoughts about it. You start thinking about the emotion with a better perspective. It allows you to deal with it effectively.

In case you find it difficult to feed it to your mind explicitly, try to write it down on a large piece of paper and stick it on wall of your room or workplace or bathroom. So whenever you'll have some difficult emotions and you'll be looking at those wall papers, it'll remind you, "It's just a feeling." You can deal with it!

It allows you to think for a minute with compassion and recall that this will too pass! :)

2. "I'm not alone who experiencing this."

Another way is to feed your mind that "I'm not alone who experiencing this emotion." Many are there!

I feel like when you think like this way, it gives you strength and encouragement. Because when you think you're alonw, you feel lost. You feel like there is no way to exit from such hard emotions. But, when you think you're not alone and many others are there too. You feel like it's natural to experience it. You're part of the specific group who experience such emotion.

It becomes normal for you. It seems like that its alright to experience this. If others could deal with it,

Just a better thought to deal with your emotions. :)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

So you could try these ways to deal with your difficult emotions and experience how it works for you!

Now, let's try to have a discussion about "Ways to Deal With Emotions!"

1. How do you deal with some of your difficult emotions?

2. Do you have some other ways to deal with difficult emotions mindfully?

3. What's your experience with practicing mindfulness to deal with difficult emotions?

@ASilentObserver I'm on a self-care break at the moment. That's my way of mindfulness at this time. You pretty much mentioned things that I practice myself and share with others. High-five for this wonderful posting.

I don't necessarily deal. I try to laugh through all the pain and different emotions or I get consumed. When it gets really bad though I do reach out for support, talk it through, own the emotion and then become happy.

Mindulness is really hard for me to do but the only constant one is the deep breathing lately. I do that and listen to music to calm me down. Seeing I struggle with anxiety and depression you bet these methods are pretty frequent.

Thanks for sharing this post! 💕

1. How do you deal with some of your difficult emotions? I used to result to really unhealthy habits to deal with them but now I've learnt to listen to music or go for a walk or a drive to clear my mind, or meditate.

2. Do you have some other ways to deal with difficult emotions mindfully? I've never actually thought of how to deal with difficult emotions mindfully, I'm working on it.

3. What's your experience with practicing mindfulness to deal with difficult emotions? I've never actually practise mindfulness until I came across this website.

Mindfulness......... ready or not, here In come angel

1. How do you deal with some of your difficult emotions? I have a wide variety of ways to deal with difficult emotions, some healthy and some not so healthy. I'm learning to use those healthy ways more often. Here is a small sampling of things I do (in no order): I eat; I use mindfullness skills such as breathing, counting, using my senses to ground myself, I sleep, I write an email to my therapist, I cry, I eat (oh, did I say that already? devil).

2. Do you have some other ways to deal with difficult emotions mindfully? I think about what's behind the emotion, I do a body scan.

3. What's your experience with practicing mindfulness to deal with difficult emotions? I've been working on learning and using Mindfulness for about a year and a half. Sometimes I forget to use the skills I know, sometimes I use them and am surprised they help, sometimes it feels like the emotions are too big and I need help outside of myself to reign in the emotions. The more I practice in non-emotional times, the easier to use during highly emotional times. If I don't preactice regularly, it's more difficult to use the skills.

Did I cover everything?? wink

I used to ignore or avoid difficult emotions, or i would completly focus on other tasks i have to do, but that werent effective ways of dealing with emotions. Now i'm trying to learn to accept difficult emotions, alow myself to have them and notice that they indeed pass if you let them be here for a while and not ruminate afterwards xD
I tried visualisation with my therapist. I would close my eyes and imagine where the emotion is in my body and how is it manifested, which material is it made of, which color, which shape... And then I would blow into that and something would change... color, size, shape.. I would see that the emotion is changable and that I'm not powerless in fornt of it and that it can be changed... so sloooowly I become less scared of overwhelming effects of the emotions.
Another thing that is helping me sometimes is also to visualise where the emotion is in the body and how does it look like, and then to just gently be with it, observe it... i imagine coming to it like a feather that is falling down on it... and breathing trough it. I tend not to believe my self that I can actually feel or that I am alowed to feel something in some moment, so this is helping me to notice that i am capable of feeling and that i can trust myself when i'm thinking that i'm probably feeling something xD :)
And I found out that i like feeling things... it is tough to be in difficult emotion but it does pass and i feel lighter afterwards (this sounds pathetic, but it is how it is :D

in the fear-based emotions, i do the "i am safe in the here and now" practice, and just focusing on what is real around me. it helps me calm down.
