Cold reason

This is an exercise in mindfulness.

I am autistic. I am interested in facts and have trouble processing feelings. I love philosophy, but I find it a bit... cold. It seems to make a lot of sense, but it doesn't speak to my soul. It doesn't make me feel much of anything.

I recognise I may not be able to completely change this, but I do believe I have influence over it. I realise that I can do philosophy by writing poetry. It seems to carry the same core message that cold reason delivers, but it resonates a lot more with people. It feels more meaningful.

Only recently discovered haha. Makes things make a lot of sense. It certainly comes with challenges. I for one experience anxiety in the face of uncertainty, so I'm driven to know the truth of things. I remind myself there is always a solution.

Oh there is so much to learn! I'm still getting a formal diagnosis. I feel a bit silly jumping the gun and claiming I have it, but the psychologist assessing me all but said I have it. And those close to me see it clearly. I relate a lot to it, and the knowledge of having it has allowed me to adjust my behaviour. I still want certainty though, I respect formal diagnosis. But if you have an open mind and an honest heart, you can trust your intuition.

I will learn about your condition. I will learn about mine. It may very well lead to some very interesting discussions. I like talking to you. You make me really think!

***TW***

Asperger’s isn’t technically acknowledged by the medical community anymore. It’s also based in N*zism, so it may be better referred to as high-functioning autism, or something similar. I don’t know enough about this though, so please don’t take my comments as gospel. This is a new thing I learned about recently…

I couldn’t get a formal diagnosis :(

Aww thank you! <3 I try. I’m not a fan of surface convos hehe

I think it's evident that you are a thinking person. Those critical thinking skills of yours will take you far. I do wish you could pursue a formal diagnosis as it would provide some peace of mind, but sometimes life gets in the way. I feel blessed that I'm almost diagnosed, just gotta wait until June 6th I think?

Personally, if I couldn't get diagnosed, I would trust my intuition. I know one shouldn't self-diagnose, but when one feels so sure and can use the information to enhance their behaviour, how can one ignore it?

Don't blindly follow my words. You have to decide what's best for you. I know almost nothing and seem to make mistakes every day.

I actually did try to get formally diagnosed. They said I have either ADD or ADHD (idk which, it’s been years). I know I have ADD. My symptoms are NOT ADD. So I know I’m autistic, even if the doctors don’t agree.

@cyanessence I took love philosophy but I understand what you mean about combining poetry to make it less cold and less approachable 💜🥰

@Amanda84

I think the spirit of philosophy is to provide food for thought. I don't think it's necessarily a tool to discover facts, for I believe there are actually very few concrete things in existence. This seems true because things exist in time and thus change with it. Everything is in motion.

With poetry, one can change minds and hearts without forcing understanding. Not to say that philosophy forces understanding, but if I had to decide which is a kinder way to spread truth, it would be poetry. It really leaves it up to the reader to decide what things really mean. We need to utilise both, some really like just being told how things are, and philosophy's cold reason delivers just that.

@cyanessence true, we cannot know everything but I love the interplay of both passions, the minds of the greats such as Plato, Aristotle and Socrates, their theories, their intellect, their pushing of the boundaries. Poetry captures a feeling, a memory, it can be transformative, bring us back to a certain time and a place or move us into a future of possibility. The beauty of both disciplines is both are there to speak to us all differently and not in one medium or meaning 💜🥰

@cyanessence writting  philosophy  in your own words is much more than just hard cold facts, it's written with heart and soul 💖 and what better way to express your own thoughts than through poetry💖 I'd like to hear some of your poems oneday💖

@Tinywhisper11

You're absolutely right, philosophy can be written with heart and soul. Wise words. I will definitely try to weave more emotions into my words and perhaps one day synthesise philosophy and poetry into a new process. That way it would have the power to deliver a message with kindness that speaks the truth.

I have two poems up in the poetry section! I'd love if you could check them out. Destiny, and The Key to Reality.

I totally agree! It is ostensible that the mind is flexible.
