Mobile Phone / Content Addiction

I have been facing content addiction for quite a while now. It's not exactly cell phone or hunger for attention but just content binging. Most of my app notifications are off, and I don't even post much on social media neither do I text anyone or comment on anything.

It's all about content. Movies, youtube. I don't watch series because it requires commitment and I am not too good with commitments.

I tried too many tricks, I thought with my willpower I can get through this but it doesn't seem to be the case. The more I try to run away from this, the more I get sucked into it. Just like a drug addiction. It is at peak now. My screen time is usually higher than 8 hours. I am not able to focus on my job or anything. I lost pro-active thinking ability. I am usually not aware of my surroundings. even when I am not on phone or laptop.

Anybody has any suggestions how can I proceed to lower the content consumption and start focusing on my life? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

@selfdisciplinedFig4239 I'm not so good at this but I'll try my best to help. I suggest you should try taking in a few hobbies, like drawing and meditating. I too have dealt with this where I was unable to get off my phone. I will experience brain fogs often. The thing that helped me get off of the phone was trying to exercise. It helped me so much in both my physical health and mental health...I hope this helps....

Something that helps me is listening to audio books or podcasts. This way I can occupy my mind while getting things done. I recommend an app called libravox. I listen to classic books read and ots all free. There are alot of free podcasts.

Also, i removed most app from my actual phone. I use an older phone for apps. This way I only have data on the apps when at home.

I actually download audio content to the old phone then I can listen when outside doimg yardwork, or walking or hiking or driving etc. regardless of cell signal or wifi availability.

It's a half step, but keeps the restless addicted to content part of my brain happy.

Physical and mental redirection are two awesome alternatives. I'm a tradesman so I work with my hands a lot and figuring out how to put something together takes a lot of good time. But it's not easy and can be frustrating and learning to deal with that is all part of the adventure.

If you're addicted to easy because that was tons of media content does sometimes, redirect to a challenging thing you might want to try out and embrace the challenges that arise. It can be very rewarding at times! Start small. 😊
