The Power of Perspective Skills in Building Understanding
Skill from IDG: Perspective Skills (Thinking - Cognitive Skills)
We typically view the world through our lens based on our own experiences, beliefs, and culture. According to the IDG framework, the development of Perspective Skills entails "seeking, understanding and actively putting to use insights from differing points of view."
This ability will be critical in reducing conflicts, creating empathy and generating new outcomes. It requires us to be able to step outside of our known assumptions and remain open to learning from the perspectives of others, even if we might not agree with them.
🧠 Let's have a discussion:
Can you think of a time when hearing another person’s perspective actually changed how you viewed something?
How do you personally work at broadening your perspective - particularly in difficult, or emotionally-laden situations?
@savanaah agree with the sentiment of your post but just a heads up: if you're working towards the IDG elective, this post needs to be in the 'IDG 7Cups Hub' forum
