Bio

As an undergraduate in psychology I have a keen interest in mental health issues and in helping those in distress with emotional support. I consider listening and creating safe environments for people to share their thoughts to be very effective. Through 7 Cups, I wish to support others and focus on being an empathetic and non-judgmental listener. I’m here to learn and grow while supporting those who might be going through tough times.

Perseverance

...See more Motivational quotes frequently promote perseverance, but I've discovered that it's more about overcoming obstacles when no one else is around. It's the silent choice to press on in the face of uncertainty, frustration, or a slow pace. Assignments, emotional exhaustion, and self-doubt all felt too much to handle during my last semester of college. I wanted to quit. However, I didn't. I took each day as it came, even if it meant turning in work that wasn't flawless or asking for assistance when I didn't want to. I continued to appear. Perseverance is "the ability to sustain engagement and remain determined and patient even when efforts take a long time to bear fruit," according to IDG. That sums up exactly what I experienced. Staying in the game is what perseverance is all about, not having heroic moments. I now remind myself that progress is frequently invisible until it isn't, whenever I feel like giving up on something that is important to me. Furthermore, small, steady steps have greater power than fleeting energy bursts. Questions for Reflection: - Can you think of an instance where you overcame adversity? What got you through it? - Which dream or goal are you currently on the verge of abandoning? - When results take time, how do you maintain your motivation?

Self Awareness- What we never fully understand

...See more I used to think self-awareness was a  very vague concept. I mistook it for simply "knowing who you are." However, life teaches you what you fail to learn. When I noticed that I was responding to people and circumstances in ways that weren't consistent with who I wanted to be, self-awareness finally became apparent to me. I would frequently compare myself to others, become defensive in conversations, or shut down when there was disagreement. I finally took a close look at myself rather than placing the blame elsewhere. The actual work began at that point. "The ability to be in reflective contact with your own thoughts, feelings, and desires" is how the IDG framework defines self-awareness. It involves gaining knowledge about your fears, blind spots, strengths, and triggers—not to condemn them, but to comprehend them. And it's brave. It made it easier for me to communicate my needs without feeling guilty, to recognize when I needed to rest, and to respond rather than react. I now keep a journal on a regular basis, monitor my feelings, and take breaks when I'm feeling overburdened. Although difficult, it is worthwhile. Being honest with myself is the first step to true growth, and self-awareness allowed me to do just that. Thought provoking questions that cam to my mind while reading the IDG course * Which behavior or response have you observed in yourself that you still don't fully comprehend? * Currently, how do you check in with your feelings and thoughts? * What would you accomplish or conquer with greater self-awareness?

The bliss of your own company

...See more Here I am, sitting with my barefoot on the slab, with no one around other than the light breeze and street lights giving me company. I was never a person who enjoys my own company but now I do. When I wonder why was it that way I can't seem to ignore the fact that it was projecting from my own insecurities. People say it's because I am extroverted that I don't enjoy my own company but I think it's deeper than that. It goes beyond the external persona we put on. I might have not been confident in myself enough to be okay with my own company. I'm not saying that I hated it but I did not love it either. I always thought about the other times when I was surrounded by people or the next time it's going to be like that. I do like sitting with my thoughts and writing it down, like this. I feel like I'm talking to someone.  College has taught me a lot and the biggest lesson would be to find happiness within yourself because nobody else can provide it. Even if they do, can you really trust that to last forever? Especially when everyone is so apna apna. See I am not saying I haven't made good friends. I have. But again there are times when people have other things to do. And that's okay. I'm glad I am at a position where I am okay with myself and enjoy my own company and do not sulk about it.  Umm you know what I'm halfway there. Cause I still do wish I had people around me and I was laughing out loud till my stomach hurts. But that hasn't been happening for a while now even with company. All it has been was stressful. So now I realise what bliss actually can be. Like right now. Me writing this while listening to wholesome music sitting under a cone- shaped shed under bright yellow light looking around to see the raindrops falling rhythmically creating this soothing atmosphere with a light breeze ruffling through my curly hair. Feels peaceful. Solitude is bliss and I hope I can say that every single time solitude finds me.

Cultivating Presence in a Distracted World

...See more Skill from IDG: Presence (Being – Relationship to Self) In this busy world of multitasking with distractions from phones and responsibilities, the IDG framework describes Presence is "the ability to be in the here and now, without judgments and in a state of open-ended awareness." Practicing presence does not mean shutting down our future and past; it means we have given our full attention to what is happening right now. Whether it is engaging in deep listening to another person, noticing your breath, or taking a moment of stillness, presence creates a space for growth, clarity and connection. 🌀 Let's reflect together:   When was the last time you felt fully present? What allowed you to get there?   What are some little forms of practice you have used to help ground you in the moment?

...See more Skill from IDG: Perspective Skills (Thinking - Cognitive Skills) We typically view the world through our lens based on our own experiences, beliefs, and culture. According to the IDG framework, the development of Perspective Skills entails "seeking, understanding and actively putting to use insights from differing points of view." This ability will be critical in reducing conflicts, creating empathy and generating new outcomes. It requires us to be able to step outside of our known assumptions and remain open to learning from the perspectives of others, even if we might not agree with them. 🧠 Let's have a discussion: Can you think of a time when hearing another person’s perspective actually changed how you viewed something?  How do you personally work at broadening your perspective - particularly in difficult, or emotionally-laden situations?
