What is gratitude?

Just pondering on the meaning of gratitude..
Is it the happy feeling you have with whatever you have - a sort of contentment
Or..
Does it entail a spirit to do something good for God or people to show your thankfulness.

I’d probably sum it by saying that gratitude Is recognising and appreciating who/ what you have in life ❤️
