I welcome anyone to commit to a goal here today.

But importantly, talk about getting it done..... or why it didn't happen yet.

To praise each other for our efforts and wins.

While supporting each other through trials and setbacks.

And to continue trying and not give up.

Remember:
Every Goal should be considered "Worthy".
Never belittle your achievements and be proud of yourself for your daily accomplishments!
Whether they be Complex or Simple.
Getting out of bed is a good day..... Good job I say!

Share your goals today, for support and encouragement.

Do Your Best and Get Your rest.
Things are can be harder than what we first think. That's OK, You can do it. It's normal. Do your best. Be kind to yourself and Be kind to others.

This week I'm going to continue to reach out to people, beyond my own struggles and inhibitations.

This doesn't have anything to do with the holiday season, even though it's already coming up. This is something I've neglected to do for years.

I did pretty good last week so I'm going to try to Drop a hello to a few other people this week. 🙂

Well this week I still need to finish my monthly assignments and get the rest of the mandatory training done. One apparently was due last month and I didn't know about it. So many things they want us to do simultaneously.  I got the overdue one done and another one completed. Still have 5 to do and I don't know how many names to see if we have current background checks on. Then I have to go back through the list I've created, get additional information, and request the reports. File the reports in three places and then enter the date of the reports on the spreadsheets.

I'll have to work on my own time to get it completed by the deadline.

So no lunches for me this week. Not that I really take them anyway. I have three days to get through the list of names and I'm not even halfway done with the last report. That's not taking into account that I need to enter in the information on the people we don't have reports on to get two reports, save everything in like four places, deal with the connection lag and the volume of the main folder where we keep the customer files...

But I must close so I can get through these names. Not really supposed to work on my own time but if I don't get it done, I'll get in trouble. Either way I'll get in trouble.

Still have 150 names to do. I had a total of 180 to pull background checks on and when I went to go into our customer database to get missing information, I discovered that my password had expired a week ago. Getting a new password requires doing a video conference with IT and showing two forms of ID and I really don't have time for that. I can pull most of the information from the other site we use for background checks but I don't have the account number. We have sometimes six different account numbers for the customers which I don't understand but I can get the checks done without the account number.

I ordered something tonight because I really have not had anything today aside from yogurt and french toast sticks this morning and a bag of crisps that I had sitting in the kitchen because I fell asleep due to not eating.  Not really supposed to do that and they don't like me working on my own time but if I don't get it all completed, I'll get in trouble.

Hoping to be able to break away for twenty minutes tomorrow to get the dog her chews. Will have to start in as soon as I get into the office because if I go by my count yesterday, I have a kot to get through.

@Enthenia

"Take a deep breath. Getting hit with expired passwords, connection lag, and mountains of background checks would overwhelm anyone—especially when you're working through lunch just to keep up.

Knocking out those two trainings and finding a way to keep pulling checks despite the password roadblock is solid problem-solving. But please make sure you actually eat and give yourself a breather. Running on empty only makes the work feel heavier. Grab those dog chews tomorrow, step away for a few minutes of quiet, and chip away at that list one small batch at a time. You've got this."

@IsayUncle unfortunately, I don't have time to take a breather. Everything is due tomorrow and people keep contacting me to ask when everything will be done which takes me away from entering the data in because I have to respond. I wanted to have time to at least order groceries for home (I had two mini candy bars which I totally shouldn't have done but it's going to be all I'll have today unless I do my mints) because I've been falling asleep from stress, maybe. I don't know. Maybe from not actually eating. Maybe both. And, I think I'm still recovering from the fall over the weekend. I noticed the skin above the knees were slightly discolored from the impact. Not like I have the time to do anything about it though.

I also have to cover for someone because she's leaving at noon today for a doctor appointment. So that's another thing I have to remember to do.

And, no one really cares for the reasons why; they just want it all done. Yesterday, preferably.

--I have to get back to it.

Today was a day from Hades. What with being derailed by messages from supervisors wanting to know if I'll get it all done tomorrow (plus the training), one of the servers for a site we use for background checks went down in the afternoon. Didn't get to eat and really needed to go to the restroom but I got out late (clocked out late too. Probably will get in trouble for that) because I was trying to save one report. I'll have to go back and do the ones that I couldn't get done because of the server tomorrow. I might have to go in on Saturday just to move everything over if I can't get it all done tomorrow.

Took the bus because I knew it would take too long for me to walk down and missed the connection by about a minute. The next one was twenty minutes late and it got extremely windy while I was out. And really needing to go to the restroom didn't help any. Got home later than usual and had to free the dog. She wasn't too upset, fortunately, and later I decided to do a different delivery because one place that is healthier in comparison to alternatives, has problems finding the apartment (don't know why. The complex does a discounted food night with them about once a month). They don't have their own delivery staff anymore; they use a third-party service (that might be the difficulty) so I went with one that has no problems finding the place. They didn't, but my order was completely wrong. The boxes got mixed with someone else's order. I called the store and they said that the other location was close by but not in the same complex. I thought if it was in the same complex, maybe we could switch orders. I got refunded and I have sustenance for quite a few days--it's just way too much bread.

I don't know if I can manage getting up any earlier tomorrow so I can catch the bus before the one I usually take. That would get me to the office about half an hour before I normally get there but I'm uncertain if I want to short-change the dog that way. She needs her time outside. I also don't know if I can actually get up any earlier since I have a hard time sleeping to begin with.

Right now, I suppose I should turn off the lights and try to go to sleep since I do have to go back tomorrow and work miracles.

@Enthenia

"EN, anyone would be running on fumes after a day where every single system, connection, and plan seemed to fall apart at once.

But listen to me: you cannot carry a broken work environment on an empty stomach and zero sleep. Missing meals and skipping basic breaks won't solve systemic work issues—it just breaks the person trying to do the job.

Do not wake up early tomorrow, and do not cut into your dog's morning time. That routine is your only anchor right now. Go into work, do one task at a time at a human pace, and leave miracles off the table.

Eat what you can tonight, drink some water, give your girl a scratch behind the ears, and turn the lights off. The work will still be there tomorrow; your priority tonight is simply letting your body rest."

@IsayUncle well I didn't get up early. I left the apartment a little earlier, but it wasn't early enough to get the first bus. The server was still down but I got all the other reports done. Didn't get the files moved over. Had to do my training while going through the list of names because my manager was on me about them. That was only because her manager wanted everyone to get it done today even though we had until the 31st. So, I clocked out for lunch which I didn't take (had less than what I had yesterday and that wasn't much) and continued doing the one background check that I could do while doing my training. Even worked after I was supposed to be gone because everything had to be done today. The training. Was supposed to send my manager a note when I was done but I didn't because I would have gotten in trouble for sending it after working hours. Not even supposed to work on my own time but there was no other way I could have gotten it all done.

Missed the bus that goes by the office but fortunately, the connecting bus wasn't too delayed although we did have to get on another bus after it made its turn. Then I picked up a package at the lockers which was quite heavy. Tired, hungry, needed to go to the restroom but I still lugged the package to the apartment. Let the dog out and she let me eat something even though I was late getting home.

Oh. I managed to do a grocery order before I jumped into work this morning (technically I was on my own time when I did it) and I remembered that this job was why I had wanted to go back to school and break away but it was also this job that made it impossible for me to keep up with my studies so I got withdrawn from the university. A couple of the mandatory video training classes are so contradictory to my workplace's reality. And I know better than to call their hotline or talk to HR even though the training videos claim that it's okay.

Maybe the server will be working on the site on Monday. I think there might have been a cyberattack or something because the server has been down for over a day and a half. It's gone down before but for a few hours. But, we're not the only ones that use that site. Banks and credit unions use it too. It's to help assess a client's risk.

I'll at least be able to go in and move the files over on Monday. I did all that I could but I know that won't be enough for my department.

Oh and I remembered that after the day I took off this month last year, I cancelled all my other vacation days. No, actually, I went in early to finish up putting the dates on the quarterly report with plans to leave early but ended up staying the entire day so I had the vacation day cancelled. Then I went and cancelled what few remaining days I had requested because I figured there was no point in even requesting because I'd just be hit with unreasonable work demands again. I was there on all the holidays. Didn't even have school work to focus on because I had taken leave at that time due to not being able to finish assignments on time. Also because of work.

I'm not sure if I even want to try and request any more days off this year. Oh wait. I have to request 12/2 for the retina appointment unless he decides to cancel a third time. But I won't know about a cancellation until shortly before my appointment like the last time.

Also not certain if the fact that I haven't run off screaming into the hills from this job is a good thing or not. That, and there are no hills close by to run to. I'm fairly certain the job has made more of my hair get blanched than it would have gotten in a better work environment.

Hello old friends......

I am trudging along.....I'd like to say things are status quo but I took on the project of a bathroom remodel that, well, just hasn't gone the way I expected....it seem like every time I rip something else out, I find some unexpected thing that needs attention, or the original was put in cobbed up, or something doesn't fit as it should.....I'm 5 days into a project that should have taken 2, if it went as planned.....today I am taking the day off work to wait for a plumber, because.....while I can do some things....and youtube is a great resource....I am not a professional....but I did sleep at a holiday inn express once (old joke that some folks may not understand....)  On top of that, I'm having my retaining wall replaced this week....the old concrete and stone one is leaning quite badly and won't make it through the winter.....they are supposed to start digging out the old one today....set the forms, rebar, and pour on Thursday....and back fill it all when the concrete sets.....Its a 40 foot long 4.5 foot high wall that goes the length of my driveway that holds up my neighbors property.....living on a hill in New England comes with its own set challenges......I'm looking at about 27 thousand dollars......the good thing is my neighbor agreed to split the cost with me since the wall actually crosses both our properties.....but even with the cost split it hurts the pocketbook and savings......the joys of home ownership....which is why I've decided to retire into a condo.....pay HOA and let them worry about it.....I'm hoping the new wall brings the home value up enough to recoup the money when I finally sell in 4 years.....anyway....just wanted to say hello.....I hope everyone is doing well....keep on keeping on and have a wonderful week......

@CyclingThroughLife Haven't seen your name in a bit. Nice to see you.

@CyclingThroughLife

Hey cycling, good to see you. You sure do have a lot going on. I was probably in the room next to you at Holiday Inn. .🤣🤣🤣.

"Hang in there, my friend. Anyone who has ever swung a hammer knows the golden rule of home projects: there is no such thing as a simple two-day job once you peel back the drywall. Finding somebody else's shortcuts is maddening, but knowing when to call in a licensed plumber is just good project management. And the Holiday Inn Express line was spot-on—sometimes humor is the only tool that keeps a remodel on the rails.

As for that retaining wall, catching a hillside failure before winter hits is a massive save. Splitting the bill with a reasonable neighbor takes some of the sting out, even if writing the check hurts right now. It protects your property, preserves your investment for when you're ready for that low-maintenance condo, and spares you a winter disaster.

You're weathering the bumps, handling the unexpected, and keeping things moving. Take a breath while the plumber does the heavy lifting today, and holler anytime you want to swap renovation war stories. Hoping the concrete pour goes off without a hitch!"

@IsayUncle I have two days of exams starting on December 19th, covering four subjects and lots of books. (I'm almost 25, graduated from university two years ago, and have worked for more than a year.) I want to do something because I choose to, instead of feeling like I'm "being forced to".

I quit my job on September 23rd. It took me a month to start learning how to be alone, without just scrolling through Threads or playing games all day. I finally realized that I can actually be a huge support for myself, instead of always relying on a specific group or a specific person.

I'm using AI and self-encouragement to help me study. Still just getting started though.

I also learned something. If you need a bunch of time to focus on something, I want to share this with you: games, attractive people, short videos, and all kinds of social media can all be seen as "products" which are eager to catch our attention and occupy our time.

If you're easily distracted by those things or by a specific person, and you also need to finish something important, then maybe it's time to realize that this is not the time to "buy those things." Not everything is worth spending my time on. I found that thinking about it this way helps me focus on my tasks.

I also found that I always tend to escape from the hardest thing and do something easier instead. Just recording it here to remind myself.

@aquaGrapes718

It's nice that you shared a little bit About yourself. Thanks, it puts a nice twist to the conversation.

I can say with all sincerity. That I am impressed with your logical forward thinking for problem solving, for tackling some of the hardest habits ever to understand. I think you should take a bow. You're doing good, Starting to weigh the scale's of time against what you wanna purchase and what you don't want to purchase is a great way to look at it.

Trust me, None of us likes "eating the frog.... (doing the big thing, as hard as eating a frog 😭😂)
But if you just can't..... keep doing the littler stuff, it all helps!

(From Google)
"Eat the frog" is a time management and productivity method that means completing your most challenging, important, or dreaded task ASAP.

 Good luck with your Exams.... and being alone can be your strongest Asset sometimes.... but at 25, I'm sure it's kind of hard.😏

@IsayUncle Thank you for keeping this weekly thread going, and for the reminder that small goals count too. Joining in for this week: my goals are a 20-minute walk after work on at least four days, reading for 15 minutes before bed instead of scrolling, and clearing one small area of my home each evening. I also liked the idea of reaching out to people more, so I will send a short check-in message to two friends this week. Good luck to everyone working on assignments, exams, and home projects — breaking a big task into one clear next step has helped me a lot, and I hope the rest of this week goes well for you all.

You are very welcome. ☺️.

I really like how you have broken down some tasks into set target points with time and quantity. I think that's a good move, and you could be pretty successful.... I hope so, You Can Do It! 💪.

I hope the reaching out makes you feel better, (and illicits good vibess) thanks for including that.

YAY..... lets keep rooting for those others working on thier assignments and exams.. Go Go Go! 🎉

Yes, You are so right! I find it a hard balance, to embrace and practice, and  i think a lot of others do too. So you are right... it is very important.

On my time tracking system, I actually have two catagories of rest.
1) Non-Productive Rest - When i just shut down and can't motivate.... that's a time of forced rest that should be acknowledged and embraced. Do not let guilt or insecurities diminish the rest period. (It's Ok to rest and recharge)
2) Relaxing Rest - To rest and relax by choice. No worries - celebrate -indulge - have fun.
