Weekly sharing of Goals! Week #44 (Monday 10/30/23 - Sunday 11/05/23)
I welcome anyone to commit to a goal here today.
But more importantly, talk about getting it done or why it didn't happen today.
To praise each other for our efforts and wins.
While supporting each other through trials and setbacks.
And to continue trying and not give up.
Remember:
Every Goal should be considered "Worthy".
Never belittle your achievements and be proud of yourself for your daily accomplishments!
Whether they be Complex or Simple.
Getting out of bed is a good day..... Good job I say!
Share your goals today, for support and encouragement.

I've added a "soft" tag list to this thread because I start a new thread every week and it gets lost sometimes. Anyone that is interested in following and interacting might not be able to find it so I hope this helps. It's a soft tag list because it's not permanent. It will fluctuate with activity and requests. Agreeing or requesting to be on this tag list will keep you on. If I got you on here by accident, please let me know because it's supposed to be a helpful thing and not an intrusion.
Here's to a Fresh Start
You Can Do It! We Can Do It!

Hi @cloudySummer
Wecome to week #43. If I have read a couple of your other threads or comments, I get the idea that you work with computers and programs? Anyway, if you have time and you want to, what do you have going on this week?
Myself, I have been mostly self-employed in the home improvement business but currently doing truck driving jobs and backhoe work. I made a dumb mistake last week and lost my bus driving job so this week I'm gonna see if I can get that back and if not, go commit to another job making a bit more money (that's a good thing). I also have to finish repairing my backhoe this week.
@CyclingThroughLife @KristenHR are other friends on this thread and regular contributors and I just wanted to let you know that we all try to talk to each other and acknowledge each other 's efforts. SO..... Have a great day today, and may good progress be the reward for hard work.😉
@IsayUncle
Happy Monday. I hope things go well for you with the bus people. I am also sending good vibes to you with getting the backhoe up to snuff.....
I am still working on finding goals that are not meaningless to me.
@Gettingbettertoday
Not long ago, when I was so very depressed everything was meaningless. What was the point, where's the hope, why do anything?
I just finished reading a lot of your other posts, I look at your bio and I understand that you probably suffering from a chronic type of depression. I'm saying this is a layman, civilian, a depressed person myself, not an experienced health worker. But I also noticed that the things you say are very true and you have a very logical line of thinking.
I would wager some money that if it came to mechanical or material things you are quite the problem solver. But social and psychological difficulties are not logical and sometimes when we can't solve them it can be frustrating and even seem meaningless. But they're not, and it's important to know that.
My first goals out of depression were those of logic. Make bed everyday equals feel good when looking at it throughout the day. Stay clean. Shop, cook and eat healthy. LOGIC alone makes these meaningful goals for anti depression. The simplest of them can be very hard to do at first but they are meaningful and they do serve a purpose.
The logic of staying active is a purpose for having no purpose. And things/hope can build from there.
I hope I didn't run off at the mouth too much. I do that a lot and I really am a social misfit and do not understand the nuances of proper communication. I hope I didn't hurt your feelings in any way and I hope I don't sound like I'm a Mr. know it all jerk. It's just that, not too long ago I suffered the same quandary and I've been working hard to get to feeling better for a couple years.
@Gettingbettertoday
Hi @Gettingbettertoday. I hope you come back and continue the conversation.
I think you brought up a very pertinent point. The topic of a meaningful goal. This is a topic I'm gonna talk about next week in the week #45 thread.
I think it's an important topic because on a personal level, what's meaningful to us may not be meaningful to somebody else. If we think that we have nothing meaningful in our lives, I think it's still important to maintain basic life survival goals even if they seem meaningless.
I might be wrong, but that's why I think this is such a insightful topic to talk about. Thank you so much for bringing it up, it is a very valid concern and sentiment. I hope it's OK if I tag you in week #45 because I'd love to hear your input on this.
I hope you have a nice peaceful day today.
Happy Tuesday....I'm a little late to the party this week. I've been feeling a little under the weather the last couple of days. Its kinda weird, sore body and joints, like when you have the flu or are sick, but I'm not really sick. The soreness is the only symptom I have had. I'm not completely up to snuff, still a little body soreness but I'm working on it. My goals this week....
Get in some mileage on the spin bike to help my team. I didn't ride Sunday or Monday...I managed 11 miles today but had issues with the internet and the YouTube class I was taking so I got frustrated and just stopped. Technology....help or hinder? wait...that was deja vu....some will get it, some won't...but that's ok....
I'm still working on not multi tasking at work....I've also started to "delegate" things more. I'm the "I'll just do it myself so it gets done right" kind.....The not multi-tasking goal is coming along slow but sure....the delegating...not so good....I delegated some things to my subordinates on my days off.....I came back to work to a mess.....either they didn't understand the instructions or they just didn't care.....I didn't ask them because I was so angry I would have made things worse....I need to cool down before we "talk"....it kind of enforces my "do it myself" attitude....Thats enough about work right now....
Home goals.....I need to rake leaves but there is still a bunch on the trees...the question is do I do this in two or three different days or wait until they all come down, and try to hit them all at once....OR....I could just leave them, let the snow cover them when it flies, and rake them in the spring.....decisions decisions....so I guess my goal this week is to decide when I want to rake the leaves...lol...little things that bother me.....wait...that could be another goal....not to let the little things bother me too much....but I've been doing that for the last, I don't know how many years.....but anyway....
simple home goals...
-keep my checkbook balanced and accounts up to date(do them daily or every other day rather than each payday......
-eat more healthy....My girlfriend and I have been slacking in keeping each other accountable for what and how we eat so yesterday we sort of recommitted to that.....
I'm sure I'll come up with a few more later in the week but for now, I'm going to leave it at that....I'm feeling if I write out too many, I'm putting too much pressure on myself to get them done because I put it out to the universe.
Everyone have a great evening.....I'm supporting you all from behind this keyboard....
@CyclingThroughLife
Hi Cycling, Well now.... it seems like things are snowballing on you this week (pardon the seasonal pun). I'm really sorry to hear about your aches and pains. But these things will naturally slow us down and we can't beat ourselves up too much about it. Even though it still is very frustrating. I know you're disappointed about your biking but you've been kicking **** on that man. Sometines a trying session is always going to be there to keep the balance of things. I really believe that. I think sometimes things go wrong just to slow us down in some kind of universal karma kind of way. I really do believe that, I think it's a natural mechanism to keep us humble. Sound crazy?
I don't mean to talk about myself here but I have been unable to multitask or delegate tasks my entire life and it has been terrible for me. It has kept me uptight, wound up and unable to grow my businesses and also make family members alienated when it comes to doing group projects.
I don't know why I think people can read my mind, or follow basic instructions; like, "stack those four high in the left corner in the room but don't push him hard into the corner". Then I come back and there's four stacks, 6 high in the middle of the room.... It's crazy. Just saying, you are not alone!
As I learn empathy, I realize there's some people are not blessed with the natural organizational or mechanical ability and what seems so basic and easy to me, they don't have a clue. It's not their fault. They can do things that I don't have a clue and they would probably think that I was brainless if I was doing one of their projects. I can usually grasp the idea of things quickly but also I've had people be very patient with me at times.
Secondly, there are people they just don't care, Don't get it and don't want to get it. Consider separating your personnel mentally into two groups. Work with the cream of the crop that are worth your patience and understanding, even if they mess up, you believe they are trying.
And go rake some leaves, you don't have to finish. Let the snow cover up the rest. I kind of like raking leaves (do you?), just getting out there and smelling the fall. Leaves are easy to move so the progress is rewarding and just being out and about might make you feel better with such a crazy week. If you don't finish, no harm no foul. It'll be OK.
Just a quick note about myself, I'm maintaining the little things and going with the flow with the bigger things without setting any goals in concrete right now.
@CyclingThroughLife BTW, did you start your work/career forum yet? If so please tag me. Thanks

"Secondly, there are people they just don't care, Don't get it and don't want to get it. Consider separating your personnel mentally into two groups. Work with the cream of the crop that are worth your patience and understanding, even if they mess up, you believe they are trying."
I like this idea. Thanks for suggesting it. I will give it a shot and keep you updated.
As for raking leaves, I don't mind it, but I don't like the cold. Anything below 45 degrees F, I'd rather stay inside. While there are times I need to be outside in the cold winter(snow blowing, shoveling, etc), If I don't have to be out in it, I don't. One would think that living in New England I would be used to it. So if the leaves are on the trees late like they are this year, I procrastinate to rake as the temps drop.
"Just a quick note about myself, I'm maintaining the little things and going with the flow with the bigger things without setting any goals in concrete right now."
I'm glad you are maintaining the little things and going with the flow. Sometimes we have to step back and just let things go as they may. While I sit here and type that out, I have the hardest time doing it.
@CyclingThroughLife BTW, did you start your work/career forum yet? If so please tag me. Thanks
I have one post in the work/career forum. I'm not sure how the tag thing works but please feel free to stop over and participate.

@CyclingThroughLife
Thks. I did it.
FYI... Putting the @ symbol in front of the username @CyclingThroughLife is considered tagging someone. Whoever gets tagged, in this case I tagged you; you should get a notification that I mentioned you in a thread.
I'm pretty sure that's how it works. If I've already commented or I'm involved with the thread then I don't need to be tagged because I got the notification box checked and I get notified when anything is written in that thread.
But if I start a new thread that nobody knows about, they won't get notifications of the new thread. That's why I tag you guys when I start my weekly thread. So if you see anything you think might be of interest to me or want me to read, just include the @IsayUncle (or anybody else) in your post.
Thanks for including me in your Work/Career forum.
Happy Thursday people....
I've managed to accomplish all my things at work this week. I'm learning and continuing to work on one thing at a time and not multi-task. Most of the reasons I don't reach work goals is because I multi-task and/or get pulled away from what I'm doing all the time. This is the nature of my working environment, and it something I've not been able to master in the 2 years I've been a supervisor. I'm learning to say no when I get asked to do something else or get pulled away, if I can(somethings NEED to be addressed immediately and cannot wait) and finishing something before I move on. Work in progress, slow but I'm seeing progress....
Bike challenge is coming along well....I'm averaging about 100 miles a week. Of course we are only 2 weeks in....life can get in the way and that mileage can drop, but for now I"m motivated and maintaining.
Home goals, just maintaining the household chores.....laundry, dishes, the usual. As for the healthy eating.....its slow getting back at it...lol.....not to make excuses, but my son's high school soccer season is still going and its hard with late practices and games and away games, to plan, cook and eat healthy. When on the run like that, its easier to order take out. Yea, after re-reading that, I'm making excuses....Time to get my stuff together....
Anyway...I hope you all are moving forward. And if you aren't, or you are stuck, its ok...I'm still sending out good vibes.....have a great Friday Eve.....
@CyclingThroughLife
Go get'er done Sunday to you cycling. I hope your week is starting off good. I believe New England had a good bit of rain last so I don't know if you got your leaves done or not but we're having good weather here for the next few days. That's one of the reasons I left New England. I lived in Connecticut so I know what you're talking about when you talk about the cold and stuff.
That's really good you got a lot of your work stuff done and maintained you're biking goals. I forgot what you said your bike club goal was, like 30,000 miles or something? Anyway, good job on that. That's freaking awesome.
I think there is a fine line between making excuses and reality. Time is the dictator for reality. You have a lot going on and especially with your son and the soccer practice, that's precious but it does take time. And it effects your schedule in a significant manner.
I've been wanting to lose another 10 to 15 pounds to get to 275 but that takes a lot of work with the shopping, discipline, planning my meals and sticking to them, preparing certain meals and not wavering. What I'm saying is, that is a lot of energy and it would be easy for me to say that I'm making excuses but in reality, I'm making a choice not to put that pressure on my plate right now. In my heart and soul I know I'm going to do it and when I say I'm gonna do it, I'll get it done and then other things will have to be put on the back burner because of it. I know this and I choose to accept this.
So there is a fine line between making excuses and reality. What side of the line you are on, depends on the decision of a definite choice. And with all that said, that could all be just my justification for making excuses.... (something to think about) Who knows? Lol. Just do the best you can do man, you're doing great.
