Maintaining Motivation Tips
Thanks everybody for the tips on "Coping at Holidays". What a great forum for members to read when they are in need of tips to cope. I thought of starting another given your great responses.
Given that the new year is coming up and many people make resolutions to make changes, they don't always go to plan. It may work for one week thensomething happens and motivation is hard to maintain. So my question is "What are your tips to maintain motivation when you wish to achieve goals and you have a set back?"
I will start:
Notice what happen and make a plan regarding how you can better handle the situation in the future
I get other people involved. For better or worse, acommitment I makewith others is going to be stronger than a commitment I make to only myself.
So if I'm trying to get in shape, I am going to join a local running club, and I am going to have to force myself to go to the first few meets. Then, if I like the group, I'm going to want to keep goingand do well with them. If the group isn't right for me, I can find another, or create my own. :)
Also, I remember the thing about habits isthey're hard at first. Endurance grows with time. So I will celebrate my first baby steps, keeping them as small as they need to be. Small does not mean unimportant.
Soon enough, the steps will become easier, and I'll naturally lean toward increasing my challenge ? if what I'm accomplishing is truly valuable to me right now.
here are the things which i usually do and i recommend...
ensure that you forgive myself if you ever fail to keep up the resolution . start again from the first ! new year resolutions can be restarted in the middle of the year ! nothing wrong in that !. also ensure that you don't start too big...just start small and increase it in the course of time..its important to do like that because most people start way too big and hence they are not able to carry it on . so start small, keep increasing slowly but steadily and also enjoy whatever you do because the moment you stop enjoying ,it becomes a job and you start finding it tough...
so
1) start small
2 )don't put too much pressure on yourself...consistency is the key
3) whatever you do , enjoy it !
