Personal starters: What got you out of bed today?
Hey all,
So one of the bits of wisdom I learned from my grandfather was this. That often times, the hardest part of anything in life is just getting started. And as a corollary to that, we need to have a "starter" for ourselves in the mornings to get us going and out of bed.
With those ideals in mind, what was your own personal starter (or starters) that got you going and out of bed today?
For myself today, it was the anticipation that I had for my weekly video-chat with one of my lifelong friends. I feel like having things to look forward to in life is so paramount towards my well-being. :)
@sereneSunset26 the dog lol
@mytwistedsoul
You know, there's something to be said for pets helping us to keep on keeping on.
During times that I have struggled with something (or just life honestly) my cats and dog being there has definitely made a difference.
Okay, not as fluffy and loveable as a dog, but hear me out! I just got 2 tarantulas 2 months ago, one that's 3/4 inch and one that's 2 inches. They actually do help me stay positive. When I'm feeling kinda down, thats when I notice that my tarantula is taking a walk around its enclosure, or grooming, or just standing out in the open. Pets really do help!
@JayTee95 They are kind of hairy though it seems. It's cool you have them and they help - they're actually pretty fascinating - they can live for along time and really gentle - from what I've read anyway. You're right - pets really do help though - we have to take care of them right? Doesn't matter what they are - dog - cat - bird - reptile or insect. We made a commitment to them so we have to honor it and get up to take care of them
Maybe if you can or want to - you could share a picture of them here? I'd love to see them! What are their names?
Their names are Lassie (from its scientific name) and Sarin (a toxic gas weapon. It's one of the most venomous tarantulas and would ruin your month 😅😅😅but it's BLUE.)
It's BLUE🤩🤩🤩
I'm was trying to upload a picture but it wasn't working. Even now it seems to keep saying "technical difficulties." Do you have a way you get it to work?
Either way, look up Lasiodora Parahybana, which is the 3/4 inch one, and Poecilotheria Metallica, which is the two inch one. You'll probably find pictures of what they'll look like as adults.
@JayTee95 You might have to upload them to imgur first. https://imgur.com/ Then you can just post the links or just copy and paste them here then
I love the names! Tbh - at first I thought Lassie - the dog lol! But holy cow they get BIG! The top one looks so soft and fuzzy

The blue one is absolutely gorgeous though! They are awesome!
They're going to take a few years to get that big, but the LP is one of the largest spiders in the world. However, even though they look furry, they actually have what are called urticating hairs that have little barbs and hooks on a microscopic scale. If they get on you, you'll have intense itching, possible rashes and blisters. They kick their abdomens when they feel threatened to throw the hairs into the air.
The blue one doesn't have urticating hairs, but its venom is enough to keep you away.
@JayTee95 Itchy hairs and venom! Omg do you hold them? I mean I guess you would have to handle them or they wouldn't get tame and you have to clean their cage. Are they caged together or separately? I guess they eat bugs right now? Were they were born and raised in captivity - that would make them more used to people right? They're really cool pets you have! I mean - I get freaked out by them but they look so cool - I would admire from a distance 😅
Wanting to benefit others.
I know I have a purpose, my promises to others. Kindness, compassion, patience, equanimity, generosity. That and my other aspirations, that mostly come and go. My secondary aspiration is caring for small animals. 😊 I know every moment I have a chance to improve.

You know, having a purpose is so crucial towards our ability to keep going in life. There was a time in mine where I honestly felt like I had no purpose and that was a really quick trip towards depression just in itself.
And given that our time is limited, knowing that we're here for a reason as well as what we want to do with that time is so important.
Thank you for your post. :)
I can't sleep.I'm having a hard time sleeping but I somehow got some sleep but everyone's in the house wakes up too early like really early in the morning that's why I have a headache but yeah I can't sleep after hearing all the noise.I get up cause I wake up again for another day.Might be negative cause I didn't want to but yeah.I just do the usual.Just trying everyday to do my best.Hope you are doing okay whoever is reading this.
@BluePurpleBlack
I hear you.
Just trying to do our best everyday, I feel, is such a laudable goal in life. Because our best can (and will) change, but I feel as long as we're willing to meet whatever our best is on the day, that we'll be just fine. :)
Bluepurpleblack- Crap that sounds exactly like me. My advice for you- just keep going, u know, just pushing through each day. And look for Annie and every positive thing about your daily life that you can find. Maybe even keep a notebook and write each day of the week or what time that it is when you start writing & list every positive thing about yourself Or your life that you can come up with... Like Monday*ate a healthy breakfast and brushed my hair//teeth. Tuesday- took the dog for a extra long walk and cleaned the kitchen.. These may seem like very small things, but each week you can try to increase what you are doing so that you are working longer on positive things for yourself, or even doing more. Small things become big things in no time. Trust me on this I know because I've spent the majority of my life being depressed and never able to accomplish anything larger than just brushing my hair or changing my shirt on a daily or even only a weekly basis. And good Luck. Best wishes for your continued progressdmm
The cats wanting their first breakfast.
And then I got back to sleep.
Until they woke me up for second breakfast.
@anonyLemon4233 cats are funny that way arent they? :)
Hmm depends on my mood... And if I have slept enough before their appetites start vocalising themselves...
@anonyLemon4233 Lol they're singing you the song of their people :) and they get louder and louder and the meows get longer. They definitely don't have much patience
@mytwistedsoul 😸
"their people" also have a tradition whereby if the song fails then everything magically becomes their scratchpost...
Followed by the zoomies across the bed and the capturing of my toes...
I hope each night to wake up to a more lenient audience
@anonyLemon4233 The zoomies are the best part 😁 they go from 0 to 300 in 2 seconds! It's a good way to build up an appetite too lol!
1) a strong cup of coffee
2) knowing that I would be going for a walk in the park
3) knowing that I would be working on my 7C internship today :)
A cup of coffee
Only thing pulling me out of bed is my precious 2yr old needing me
@anccc9109
While I can't personally relate to having kids yet in my own life, this is a sentiment that I know I have heard from a lot of different parents--including my sister.
It's not nearly on the same scale, but for me, knowing that I have had pets to take care of has at times in a similar vein given me the reason I needed to get up and get started.
@sereneSunset26
My dad brought me chicken nuggets!
That's a great breakfast to me! I had spicy chicken nuggets yesterday 🤤🤤🤤
Taking my medications got me up. I have to take my depression, bipolar, and anxiety medications around 8 am, and that usually gets me up and moving for a while, even if I end up going to sleep around 10 or so until 12. I used to take them whenever I got up, but taking them on more of a schedule helps me feel better. Other than that, my cats, dog, and tarantulas help. I also read aloud in a foreign language I've been learning for 12 years, Italian, as soon as I get up.

I can certainly relate to being on the clock as far as medications are concerned. There's about three I that I have to take on a daily basis, so they're definitely part of my daily routine at this point.
And I have to say, I am glad your tarantulas help you, but oh boy do I have arachnophobia, haha. Especially after I was bit several times in the night up and down my arm and shoulder. 😅
Oddly enough, I used to be horribly afraid of all spiders when I was a kid, to the point where I wouldn't even go in the basement. I slowly desensitized myself to where it turned to fascination. Apparently it's common in the tarantula keeping hobby 🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️
My dad just force me out of bed and get me started otherwise I don't start at all. Just nothing to look forward in life
