Positivity & Motivation

Hey! Its HarveyM here. Im the Forum Track Leader from the Motivational Support Team. If youre interested in joining the Motivational Support Team, please view the following forum post; https://www.7cups.com/forum/SelfHelp_147/MotivationalSupport_1082/MOTIVATIONALSUPPORTTEAMRELAUNCHUPDATES_57297/

I am going to write a short, yet detailed, post about Positivity & Motivation.

Lets start this off with a few simple questions;

What is positivity?

What is motivation?

How are they linked?

Positivity is the frequent experience of pleasant emotions. Some of the most common are: joy, hope, gratitude, interest, serenity, pride, amusement, love, inspiration, and awe.

"The term motivation refers to factors that activate, direct, and sustain goal-directed behavior... Motives are the "whys" of behavior - the needs or wants that drive behavior and explain what we do. We don't actually observe a motive; rather, we infer that one exists based on the behavior we observe." (Nevid, 2013)

If you are a positive person, then your positive attitude will help you see the bright side of life, become optimistic, and expect the best to happen! A positive attitude can help you be more creative, constructive and positive with your thinking as well as to build and maintain an attitude of happiness with a motivation and energy to set and reach realistic goals!

I also found the following article I wanted to share on positivity;

3-to-1 ratio

The concept of positivity is by no means a Pollyannaish ideal where you dont experience negative emotions. Obviously, we cant avoid negativity in our lives; bad things do happen. What matters is the ratio of positive to negative emotions over time. We just have to make sure that we have more than enough positive experiences to counterbalance the negative ones. Research in positivity indicates that the benefits of positivity occur when our ratio of positive-to-negative emotions is at least 3-to-1.

I like the 3-1 ratio article. It's true negativity can't be totally not experienced. It's about being positive and turning the negativity into something positive . :-)
